One of Haley's favorite things about human beings was their ability to pretend that things which were happening were not actually going on.
Their children could be raving lunatics and they would be out there telling the world that they were absolute saints. People could catch their spouses cheating on them in broad daylight, and then they would be able to go and convince themselves that the other person they found in the bed had been busy helping with the structure of the piece of furniture.
People could be fired from their jobs and somehow convince themselves that they were the ones who had resigned.
That dedication to avoiding issues really was commendable, and Haley was currently watching it live.
