Chapter 18 - "The Night Before the Storm"

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

A power level over ten thousand.

Even King Vegeta might not be able to beat him.

That's… insane.

But the enemy wasn't King Vegeta—nor any Saiyan at all.

Harry couldn't even describe what he was feeling inside.

Maybe Bardock really believed he was strong enough, that he could somehow turn the tide.

Reality is cruel like that. The moment Frieza casually said his power level—before transforming—was five hundred and thirty thousand… that's when everyone finally understood what kind of monster ruled this universe.

Harry sighed inwardly.

He still remembered how speechless he'd been the first time he watched Dragon Ball in his previous life, back when he'd learned just how massive that gap really was.

And that was only the beginning of the terror.

Back then, he thought Frieza's 530,000 was already absurd, completely beyond reason—but then came the Namek saga. By the end, Frieza's power had soared to a hundred and twenty million. It shattered everything he thought he knew about strength.

Compared to 530,000, a measly ten thousand might as well be nothing. And compared to 120 million… even 530,000 was a joke.

Because of Bardock's firm decision—and his refusal to allow debate—Gine and Harry had no choice but to accept his plan.

Harry understood. So did Gine. She knew her husband was trying to protect them, but still, she wanted to fight that fate. She wanted to share his burden, not just stand by while he faced the coming storm alone.

Bardock's reply was simple, but unshakable: if they stayed, they'd only hold him back.

Once that was settled—departure in two days—they spent the night under the stars together.

Planet Vegeta's night sky was beautiful, filled with bright constellations.

Normally, Saiyans didn't go out admiring the night. Seeing a full moon meant exposure to Blutz Waves exceeding 17 million units—which triggered the Great Ape transformation.

Granted, the moon on Planet Vegeta only emitted that level of energy a few days each year, but most Saiyans, knowing they couldn't control themselves once transformed, avoided going out after dark.

Some Saiyans, though, could control their Great Ape form—Bardock, for one. Harry, too.

The old records said only "elite warriors" could maintain consciousness after transforming, but in truth, there were a few lower-class fighters who'd achieved it as well—those with exceptional power and talent.

"I hope Raditz and Kakarot's first space journey goes smoothly," Gine murmured, gazing up at the stars.

It was all she could do—her quiet prayer as a powerless mother.

"Don't worry," Bardock said, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "Raditz will be fine. Once this storm passes, I'll bring Kakarot back myself."

At that moment, Harry really did feel like the world's biggest third wheel. Not that he minded—they'd acted like this plenty of times before.

He only left when things got too intimate to watch.

The scene shifted to the vast emptiness of space.

By now, Prince Vegeta's elite squad had already left the small solar system that held Planet Vegeta.

In just half a day, the distance was already enormous.

Such was the speed of Saiyan ships in this era. In a few decades, that speed would become absolutely ridiculous—especially after Bulma and her father, Dr. Brief, got their hands on the technology.

Inside the ship, several Saiyans gathered in the cockpit, gazing out at the cosmos.

Three elite upper-class warriors handled navigation. Raditz and two other young Saiyans sat behind Vegeta, one on each side.

Standing next to Vegeta was another elite warrior—his personal bodyguard, Nappa.

But this Nappa was not the bald, burly man from the original story. He was younger now—his head still full of hair.

"In about an hour, we'll initiate hyperspace travel," Nappa reported. "We should reach Planet Lamp in about a month. King Vegeta didn't specify a deadline, so, Your Highness, you can treat this mission as both a training exercise and a chance to see the universe. We'll handle the protection and clean up any threats."

In the original story, Nappa was portrayed as a big, dumb brute—but that wasn't the whole truth. The man knew how to play his cards, especially when it came to flattering the prince.

"Hmm." Vegeta gave a nonchalant grunt, barely acknowledging him.

He wasn't worried.

Before departure, his father had told him this was a simple mission—more of a warm-up than a war.

And with good reason: Vegeta's talent and strength were already off the charts. His power level had surpassed 3,000—exceptionally high even among upper-class warriors.

At that level, even if Planet Lamp was considered an advanced world, how hard could it be?

Prince or not, he was already one of the strongest in the squad—despite being only five years old.

The only one stronger was the elite warrior Broly, whose power level reached 5,000—currently the team's top fighter.

Nappa's own power level was about equal to Vegeta's, though aside from his size and bulk, he lagged behind the young prince in almost every other aspect.

With an hour left before hyperspace jump, Raditz and the two other young Saiyans focused on the view outside.

It was their first time leaving Planet Vegeta, their first time flying through space.

Beyond the ship's transparent shielding, the cosmos stretched into endless darkness. At this speed, there wasn't much to see, but for first-timers, the sight was mesmerizing.

To witness something so vast and unknown—to finally touch the wider universe—it stirred something deep within them.

They had no idea that Planet Lamp wasn't a normal advanced world.

That this invasion would claim lives.

And that the two young warriors beside Raditz—whose power levels barely reached a few hundred—would die there, just as they had in the original timeline.

"This feeling… it's amazing," Raditz said quietly. "Space really is like Harry described—like an endless abyss."

The others looked at him, nodding in agreement.

Even Vegeta glanced over.

"An endless abyss, huh? Not a bad way to put it. Harry, you said? Who's that?" the prince asked.

Raditz straightened up. "He's an upper-class warrior, born around the same time as me, lives right next door to my family, Your Highness."

"I see." Vegeta nodded slightly and leaned back in his chair, looking bored again.

Raditz thought about adding more, maybe saying something flattering—but seeing the prince's disinterest, he shut his mouth.

"..."
