Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Kayla's Hostility; Glitzy's Reward

Leo completed his first corporate acquisition, even if it was only on paper for now.

At the moment, he felt immense satisfaction, watching things slowly working out. Just then, the last person that had yet to reply to his mail had also responded.

Even the last person had accepted his invitation. With that, Leo had all the puzzle pieces.

He immediately shared the lab location with the scientists and told them to get to the lab as soon as possible.

He was yet to tell them the work they would be doing, and it wasn't by accident. He just didn't want them to run away after hearing his ideas. He wanted to be there to explain to them in person.

"Please arrive at the destination within seven days. All your accommodations will be arranged. On the seventh day, I will come personally to brief you on our top secret project that will change this world forever!"

The same message was delivered to every scientist along with the location.

Leo didn't do any work haphazardly either. He also fired cleaning staff, cooks, and every other necessary worker that the scientists would need to make their lives comfortable.

As for the task to transport materials that the lab needed, he established contact with a familiar delivery service.

"Last time you screwed me up big time. But after hearing the story from Kayla, I understood that it wasn't your fault. You hadn't just almost destroyed my elixirs but your entire ship as well."

"Even though my bad luck screwed me over, I will never forget your dedication at failing the task."

This time, he again hired Glitzy's Delivery Service. There was only one difference this time. He didn't hire them to get anything delivered.

Instead, he mailed the higher ups of Glitzy to offer terms that they could never reject. The mail wasn't from Leo, but from Alpha Corp itself.

The terms of the mail were simple. It was about hiring Glitzy as delivery partner of Alpha Corp. If anything was to be delivered from one branch to another of Alpha Corp in the future, Glitzy would handle it.

Even if any products were to be delivered to customers, it would still be Glitzy. Not only would the company be paid per delivery, but they would also have a flat contract fee of a million every month.

For a company whose entire monthly revenue was less than a million, this contract was no different than gods favouring them.

Only a few minutes had passed since he mailed the company, but he had already received the response.

Glitzy gladly accepted the terms of the contract, and even invited Leo to their office as a previous guest to sign the contract.

"Our executives are busy and don't have the time to come personally. We will draft a contract and sign it digitally before sending you for further processing," Leo messaged, sounding as professional as he could.

"That is acceptable. We will be waiting for the contract. We are looking forward to our long-lasting cooperation."

Leo didn't know how excited the owner of Glitzy actually was. Let alone getting a big deal like this, he had lost any hopes for the company which was drowning in bad reviews.

It wasn't that he liked giving bad service. In fact, when he started Glitzy, he wanted it to become the best delivery service across the galaxy. But soon the reality struck him hard when bills started piling up.

Even though he wanted to improve their service, he just didn't have any funds. He had already taken a loan to his house. He also sold everything valuable, trying to revive Glitzy and his dream along with it.

Unfortunately, nothing worked out. The service just kept getting worse. They didn't get any high profile customers because their reviews were so bad.

And because they didn't get any decent customers, their income was almost in the negative. They couldn't buy decent delivery ships, being left to recycle old ships that were sold by people. They couldn't even properly maintain them.

They couldn't pay good salaries to the employees, which made it impossible to hire good pilots. It was like a devilish cycle where one bad thing led to another which led to the first bad thing growing even worse.

"May I ask you one thing...?"

The owner of Glitzy was sitting in his chair. His eyes were almost wet while his face had grown red in disbelief at the overwhelmingly positive terms.

It was as if the person offering this contract had some great desire to waste money? Because on these terms, he could definitely get contracts with better services.

"Why did you select our service to work with? Although I hate to say it, we aren't the best in the field."

His fingers were trembling as he typed the message, knowing full well that it could jeopardize the contract as well as Glitzy's future.

"Let's just say I was impressed by the dedication of one of your delivery guys. On that note, it would be preferable if you assign Glitzy as an intermediary. His skills are really good."

Leo told his reason to Glitzy's owner. However, deep down, he kept the real reason close to his heart.

'That man has already crashed a ship just to make my plan come here. If I don't trust his dedication to fail, who will I trust? Won't he be able to give me more losses if I get him? Instead of the company giving me a talented pilot as an intermediary, I would very much prefer Timmy.'

He closed the conversation and fell on the bed, sighing.

"It was so exhausting. Who says only earning money is exhausting? Spending money is even more exhausting!" He closed his eyes.

Just as he started entering the embrace of sweet slumber, a loud ring woke him up. His eyes snapped open and he looked at his device.

"Kayla? Why is she calling me at this time?"

Leo picked up the call.

"Hel-"

He had barely spoken when Kayla cut him off.

"Please come to the 1000th Floor urgently."

"Right now? I was about to slee-"

"Right now. As I said, it's very serious." Kayla didn't let him finish again. This time, her voice was strangely cold and detached, unlike how she previously addressed him.

Her tone made Leo feel like something was wrong. No, something was really wrong. It wasn't just cold but also a little hostile…
