Chapter 6 - Fears

Aurora's POV

"Shhh, I'm here," I said as I placed my index finger above his lips.

"Did you hear that?" I heard Alfred ask the witch.

"Unfamiliar sounds," he responded as he scrolled his eyes around while I bent low and hid in between the leaves.

"Have you forgotten where you are? YouYou're in a damn bush for crying out loud, loud, so what did you expect?" the witch told him as I let out a sigh of relief.

I covered Alzred's mouth, stopping him from sneezing as my heart beat increased. We have to get away from here, one way or another, another, since Alfred and the witch didn't act like they were leaving anytime soon.

"We need to leave here;; come on. Can you hear me?" I whispered uponupon seeing his nonchalant behaviorbehavior.

"I don't want her to get me. If she does, I will be dead by morning," he said, taking a deep breath.

"She won't get you;; she won't see us. Just have faith, faith, okay? NowNow let's go," I said as I helped him up with my eyes fixed on our enemies.

We crawled silently out of the bushes, heading towards a small lake that was beside it,it, when Alzred got bitten by a serpent. He let out a groan before he even knew it,it, alarmedalarmed Alfred and the witch.

"Oh no!" I cried.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do it," he whispered at the same time, holding his arms where the snake had bitten him.

"This isn't the time to be sorry;; go quickly and and bury yourself inside the water." I instructed.

"Did you hear that?" Alfred asked the witch again, this time leaving his previous position.

"Yes,"Yes, I did;; I heard a voice this time," the witch replied and walked behind them.

I prayed silently to the moon goddess to help us escape because I had never seen Alzred this scared inin the few days I've spent with him.

They walked closer to where we hid as I began to sweat. I moved my gaze towards Alzred;; he was already weak due to the snake bite.

I shifted closer to help with my butt as I tore the tip of my dress and wrapped the pieces aroundaround thearm where arm where he was bitten,, stopping the blood from flowing.

I stared at his eyes as I drew the pieces tight.. I saw how hard he tried toto stopstop himself from screaming, screaming, and as and as I drew the piece for the last time, I placed my lips on his and stopped him from letting out any sound.

I began to perceive Alfred's perfume; that was how close he was. I covered my nose and mouth because I was already panting heavily.

"I don't see any trace of anyone here," he said out loud.

"We must have misheard, or it was an animal," the witch replied.

"No! I'm sure that someone was here, and whoever it is, was so lucky.

I waited for some time after noticing that they had left. I made sure that there was no one around before helping Alzred to his feet.

We kept walking further into the forest till it got dark. I became tired as his weight weighed me down. I let out a sigh of relief as I placed him on the ground to rest.

I stared at his face and found myself smiling. I wasn't sure why I was smiling, but I described how handsome and peaceful he looked with his eyes closed.

I stood to my feet as I lit one of the candles I brought from the detached house, and I walked into the forest in search of an herbal leaf. The leaf was known to be anti-poison.

I had almost given up when I saw a branch. I plucked out some leaves and walked back to where he lay.

I pulled his hands to my reach, untied the pieces, and pressed out the juice from the leaf, which dropped on the bitten part of his arm as I laid my head down and fell asleep.

*The next morning*

The rays of the sun reflected on my eyes, causing me to wake up. I opened my eyes slowly as they caught him shirtless, cooking something I had no idea about.

A mild smile appeared on my face; at leasthe was fine, and that was enough for me. He darted his eyes towards me as I stared away quickly.

"Hi princess, my warrior princess." He smiled at me.

"Hey." I smiled too.

He walked up to me, kept the stick he held, and took my hands with his eyes fixed on me. He cleared his throat to speak.

"I want to thank you for yesterday; no one has ever treated me the way you did, and I'm grateful, and I owe you one because you're the reason that I'm alive today."

There was a moment of suspense at that moment, as I couldn't get my eyes off him as I blinked twice, realizing I'd been lost for a moment.

"Yeah, I mean no. It's really nothing; you also helped me too; let's not forget that," I said, smiling after finding my voice.

"Get up, come have something to eat," he said as he pulled me up with him.

"Eat?" I repeated, "What on earth did you prepare?"

"Come, see for yourself, Tada!" he said as he opened a pot.

"What? How did you get all these?" I was amazed and laughed heartily.

"Grab a position and help yourself," he said, smiling and giving me some soup.

I gulped down my soap before it gotold and sticky. I stared at him wile he he graduallyadually drank.

"Do you want more?" he asked when he caught me staring.

"No! no! I'm full." I smiled at him.

"Then what do you want? What's going through your mind?"

"I'm fine."

"And do you think I should believe that?"

"Uhm,'' I stuttered. "I've got something to ask,

has been on my mind."

"Go ahead."

"It's about yesterday...

"Can we not talk about it?"

"But…"
