Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 : The Goalkeeper’s Deal

San had been helped with his problem, so it was his turn to help Likan find the window culprit. San agreed.

Likan after talk with yin then she called back Hana. "No need for you to wait. I'll go to the shop you sent the location for after I finish my shift." Hana was happy but sounds disappointed then she said "Alright, that works!" She sent the location. ('I wanted to walk her home and know her workplace, but I won't press it since she said no.') Hana hung up. Siv Siv called, and Hana apologized for not telling her clearly that she was busy with Likan. "I have something to discuss with Kan." Then, she hung up.

Hana waited until after the supplementary class ended. Mutu (the Class President) was walking alone, contemplating the physics problem he couldn't solve . He was eating ice cream but found it too sweet, so he decided to grab a bitter coffee. He entered a coffee shop, ordered, and then overheard an argument.

"I'm not going! Not going!"

He turned and saw that it was Hana, and beside her was Kim (her ex-boyfriend). 'She didn't come to class, but she came here on a date? Hana…' mutu smiled at Hana and tried to leave.

Hana quickly called out, "Mu! Stop right there!" She pleaded with him with her eyes to get her out of the situation.

Mutu approached. "Is something wrong? You called me?"

Hana quickly replied, "The teacher told the Class President last night not to forget to give me the supplementary notes to review. I want to look at them now."

Kim interrupted, "Look at what? Talk to me first!"

Hana insisted, "Talk about what? We've already talked."

Mutu seemed to understand the situation. He grabbed Kim's arm, pulled him outside, and smoothly talked to both of them to calm them down.

Outside, Kim explained, "I just want to talk to my girlfriend, but she keeps avoiding me."

Hana looks so embarrassed to have her drama exposed to her academic rival. She insisted, "There is no 'girlfriend'! I told you, we broke up!"

Mutu intervened, "She said it's over, what else is there?

Kim argued, "Are you stupid or pretending to be? Girls like to break up for no reason only to get back together!"

Mutu laughed. "Oh, so that's it! Hana is just jealous and sulking, so she asked for a breakup? I never thought Hana was capable of such jealousy and relationship drama; I thought she was perfectly flawless."

Hana was furious. "I'm telling you one last time: it's over! Don't bother me again!"

Kim said, "Fine. I hope this ends it." Kim left.

Hana was relieved, but then she glared at Mutu.

Mutu protested, "What's with that look? I just helped you!"

Hana retorted, "I never thought the Class President's solution was so unimpressive!"

Mutu shot back, "I never thought Hana was capable of sulking jealousy in a relationship! I thought she was all perfect!" He said goodbye and left.

Meanwhile, Likan said goodbye to Big Sister Khai and Yin, leaving Yin to accompany Khai home. Likan noticed Khai looked a bit down, but when she asked, Khai just said she was happy because she found something she was looking for. Yin was also curious. Khai said, "It's nothing. Yin, we're having dinner just the two of us tonight." Yin naturally didn't object.

Likan arrived and saw Hana sitting alone. She joined her. Hana was thrilled. "You came! Let's order some food!"

Likan followed Hana's lead and ordered everything she wanted to eat. Hana noticed Likan eating without talking. 'She must really like it; she's eating so much.'

Likan asked, "Aren't you eating?"

Hana was startled. She said she was happy that they were finally sitting down to eat together after three years.

Likan quickly cut her off. "Don't reminisce; just eat." Likan ordered a drink.

Likan then asked, "Why did you call me here? What did you want to talk about?"

Hana apologized for forcing Likan to eat the day before. Likan replied, "Don't apologize. When you apologize, it just makes me feel worse, like I'm a bad person. It's normal for people to feel jealous, and I am jealous of you, that's why I was angry at you."

Hana asked, "Jealous of what?"

Likan was brutally honest. "Should I be frank? I'm jealous that you always get the first place in class, that you have friends, that you don't feel guilty, and that you are good at everything. I think I'm not fit to be your friend. Stop feeling guilty; it just makes me feel terrible and rude to you!"

Hana looks so hurt. "Kan, can we be like before? Please forgive me for making you feel bad about my mistake!"

Likan said, "I don't know."(but she also feel guilty when she angry with Hana but only ignore and angry make likan feel better even can't show it up) She put half the money on the table and left.

Hana looks so deeply hurt and cried. She walked on the street, feeling numb. Siv Siv suddenly appeared and immediately knew Hana was crying, even though Hana lied about it.

The next day, students were studying hard. And her classmates was asking Hana about the lesson. Only Likan sat alone, annoyed by the loud clicking of Tan's pen. She turned and asked him, "Can you stop spinning your pen?" Tan replied, "I can't." Likan nothing to say more then left to study outside since the teacher hadn't arrived yet.

She thought, 'Tomorrow, I have to go to the football game for this annoying window investigation.'

San came to find her. "I'm done with the book you found, so I'll help you with the window investigation fully."

Suddenly, Mey walked past and overheard them. Mey said, "San, you're still standing here? I heard your friend isn't coming to school today; is he getting beaten up?"

San asked, "Beaten up? He said he was just taking a day off."

Mey said, "I don't know. Maybe I was joking?" Mey walked away. Mey usually didn't interfere with anyone; why did she tell San this? Mey then asked Likan, "Do you know Vi?" Likan was confused but nodded. Mey walked away.

Tan, meanwhile, was sleeping in the supply room. He forgot to lock the door. Suddenly, a noise woke him up. He came out and saw a group of 10th-grade boys surrounding and threatening a girl it was Tuna because they were angry that she made Sara throw away their gifts.

Tan rushed in and grabbed the boys' hands just before they hit Tuna!

At that moment, Likan walked past. She didn't see clearly and thought that Tan was the ringleader! Afraid of Tan, she bravely called out, "Hey! What are you doing? Is that Tuna?"

She quickly pulled Tuna away from Tan. Tuna was silent. "Do we know each other?" Tuna asked.

Likan replied, "No, but Vi is worried about you!"

Tuna said, "I'm fine!"

Likan insisted, "Are you sure you're fine?"

Tuna looked at her and smiled faintly. "You're all the same." She walked away, adding, "Thank you, but the boy who just helped me is a good person."

Ta Ta saw this and ran to tell Mala, who was laughing with the students betting on the football game. They saw San playing on one team. San's friends looked around; Dan seemed to be missing. Lay and Phat complained, "Dan didn't even tell us as the rules! He only told San and the teacher."

Ta Ta excitedly told them, "Mala, Sing Sing, I have to tell you something! Likan isn't bothering to investigate the window; she's using her time to help that girl who follows Sara!"

Mala said, "Stop worrying about her. Let's just wait for the results. Watch the football game now."

Siv Siv was walking with Hana. "Hana, you can tell me if something is wrong." Hana said, "I don't want anything. I just want things between me and Kan to go back to how they were."

Siv Siv asked, "What were you two like before?"

Hana replied, "I can't talk about that. I'm sorry, Siv."

Hana suddenly felt someone was laughing at her. She turned, and it was Mutu, covering his face and laughing to himself, having seen Hana's relationship drama. Hana walked up to him, poked him, and asked, "What are you laughing at?" He replied, "Nothing."

Siv Siv felt like she didn't have much time with Hana either. Siv siv She said she had homework to do at home and had to leave first. Hana said, "Oh, bye! Have fun, Siv Siv!"

Hana watched Siv Siv walk away until mutu nudged her. Hana then asked mutu if he had ever had a girlfriend? Mutu said, "Yes, but I'm not interested in that anymore." Hana vaguely commented, "Love, huh?" She walked away to look at the other students outside.

Mutu ask who's that 11th grade boy? Hana smile and replied , he's a boy who ask me to help his math exercise before.

After Tan stopped the boys, they tried to fight him, but Likan happened to pass by and quickly went to get the Physics teacher. She saw the teacher and quickly asked, "Teacher, please hurry and go with me for a moment!" The Physics teacher looked confused. Likan insisted, "Please hurry, Teacher!"

When they arrived, the boys had just dispersed. Likan didn't see even Tan. The teacher asked, "Is something wrong?" The teacher went inside. "I haven't been in the supply room for a long time!"

Likan replied, "I just brought you here to break up the fight. They were threatening a 10th-grade student named Tuna!"

The teacher asked, "Really? If I catch them, they'll be in trouble! What did they do to Tuna?"

Likan was confused by the question. She was startled by the teacher walking close to her. She answered, "They wanted to hit Tuna!"

At that moment, Tan came out, yawning. "Ugh, hello, Teacher!" Likan was annoyed. 'He's a perfect actor!'

The teacher was surprised. "Huh? Why are you here?" The bell rang. The teacher said, "I'll go now. You two go back to class too."

Tan said nothing and walked away. Likan did the same.

The next day, Sunday, Likan went to watch San play football. It was a day off for work and school, so she had time. She had never been to such a crowded place. The football field was full of boys. Some had girlfriends, and some had friends watching. Likan was alone.

She walked past many boys. They saw her walking and didn't move, forcing her to step around them. They found it strange because she was wearing a thick hoodie and long clothes, while other girls were dressed up for their boyfriends or hoping to meet new people. Since they left her alone, she felt safe and continued walking.

Then she saw a woman. Likan gasped. "Big Sister Khai? Big Sister Khai!" She ran up, excited to finally see someone she knew. "I didn't know Yin played football, but I don't see him here!"

Khai asked, "Kan, why are you wearing that? Aren't you hot?"

"No, I'm fine." Likan complimented her. "Big Sister Khai, you look so beautiful! If I were a boy, I would definitely try to get you from yin!"

Khai laughed "from yin? I didn't come to watch Yin, I came to watch someone else." She gave a faint smile. Khai asked, "Who are you watching, Kan?"

Likan replied, "I came to watch… What should I call him?"

Khai chuckled. "Why is it so hard to call him? Is he your boyfriend?"

"No! He's a friend I studied with when we were little, and we lived next door. He moved to the city and transferred schools for many years, but recently he transferred back. We don't study together now, and we weren't even close. We rarely talk. Basically, we were just acquaintances, but now we're talking and helping each other but not closely anymore."

Khai laughed. "Wow, that's complicated to name! So, he's a school acquaintance." Likan smiled. "Exactly! Big Sister Khai is good at finding the right word."

The game started. San smiled at his three friends: Phat, Dan, and Lay. "See? Dan came!" Dan had bruises on his face. Phat was furious. "His father shouldn't have done that!" Lay said, "Stop being angry! I'll treat Dan to a meal to cheer him up." Dan laughed. "My dad wanted to hit me! What are you going to do to him?" Phat said, "You should learn Kun Khmer(Khmer boxing) to dodge him!" San called them over. They wished San good luck.

San's team had a strong goalkeeper. Even though he was good, goals still got scored, as football is a team effort. The goalkeeper stood in front of the goal with his two hands clutching purple gloves. Sweat dripped down his forehead. He knew he couldn't show fear or hesitation. The goalkeeper wasn't just a ball stopper; he was the mirror of the entire team's face. If he messed up, all eyes would be on him.

San felt the same pressure. The pressure wasn't from the opponents but from the hundreds of eyes in the stands and the voice inside himself. He had to teach himself to be calm when worried and to believe that one failure wasn't the end. Those words are easy to say, but hard to follow. When the team won, he just laughed in relief, but when the team lost, he was the first person people thought of. That is the reality of being a goalkeeper less glory, but full of responsibility.

The tension rose and fell, but he performed well, even though spectators and teammates (for the opposition) felt nervous every time they looked at the goalie. The feeling of watching a penalty shot is fear of a goal. The feeling of watching your favorite team score is exhilaration and expectation. The feelings were different, but San enjoyed the adrenaline of people being scared of a goal. He was full of humor, so his team won this time.

Likan smiled and saw other girls cheering they were the girlfriends of San's teammates. She also saw Big Sister Khai cheering.

San was approached by a person who was watching the ball who tripped him. San didn't say anything because the rival had come to watch him lose, but San won. That person laughed. "San, you've caused trouble with him. I hope you enjoy your time in this field!" San's teammates asked what was wrong. San said, "It's nothing big." Then He said goodbye to his teammates.

He went to his friends and told them to go wait at the restaurant first and send him the location. Lay, Dan, and Phat left.

San walked toward Likan. He saw Khai and quickly grabbed her arm, pulling her aside to talk privately. "I brought you the book. Why did you have to come here?" Khai slapped his arm. "Can't I come?" Likan saw this and was very confused.

Khai then explained, "Kan, this is my nephew!"

"Your nephew?" Likan gasped; I never knew.

Khai said to San , "Give me the book." Likan said, "Oh, so that was why! You were talking to your nephew the other day?" Khai nodded. Likan thought "Yin will be relieved now!"

San pointed out to Likan the people she should be watching: They were 10th and 11th graders who always came to watch football. They supported the other team, which was a mix of 10th and 11th graders, while San was the goalkeeper for the team from a different school!

Likan exclaimed, "Oh! That boy is here, and his friends too! The ones who threatened Tuna the other day! They are so rude!"

San asked, "Is something wrong?" Likan replied, "No."

At that moment,San saw the person who tripped San earlier, 'Pud', walked past. Likan realized that the 10th and 11th graders she was watching seemed to know and joke with Pud (but she doesn't know who is pud), Likan looked at San, confused. Khai said, "Alright, let's go eat." San invited Likan to join them.

San's friends cheered. "This is the first time we've had dinner with girls, especially with a beautiful Big Sister and Likan! We never thought we'd get to share a table!" Likan gave a small smile. Khai paid for the copious amount of food.

After leaving the restaurant, Khai took the book from San and said, "Don't tell my brother (San's dad) about this, okay?" She said goodbye to them.

Likan thought, 'When I get back to school, I'm going to question those guys.

If we clearly note we saw this is what's that likan can't think to happen they have some food talk together with the school students same grade but different class and never talk to but now likan just noticed too this time .
