Chapter 12 - A Warm Home

"The Baron's son is a murderer!"

Madam Paris shrieked like a sinister old witch, her voice like sharp nails scraping a blackboard, making Lex frown involuntarily.

"Look, this devil is back. He returned silently, and as soon as he did, he killed a poor fellow."

"What are you waiting for? Quickly deal with him, tie up the devil!"

Madam Paris uncovered the blue checkered handkerchief covering her basket, pulled something out, and threw it at Lex.

Lex subconsciously raised his cane and struck it, hearing a crisp cracking sound, followed by sticky liquid splashing onto him. It was egg white, with broken eggshells clinging to his cane, and the yolk dripping down.

Now Lex knew what was in the old lady's basket.

Incited by the old lady, the workers stepped forward with heavy breaths, but they still hesitated; after all, Lex was the Baron's son.

Baron Bison was definitely a heavyweight in Enki Town, an absolute dignitary, an existence not to be insulted.

The workers looked at each other, not rushing forward immediately.

Matthew stood in front of Lex and shouted, "What are you doing! Are you crazy? Mr. Lex is not the murderer!"

"Don't listen to his nonsense!"

Madam Paris pointed her spearhead at the butler: "He is the devil's accomplice. The Goddess says the devil's accomplice is a defiler, a polluter, an existence that must be expelled!"

"Now, it's time for you to show your faith! Capture this polluter! If he resists, I, in the Goddess's name, permit you to use force!"

The workers dared not be rough with Lex, but against a butler, they clearly had no psychological barriers. They were about to rush forward when suddenly a small figure stood beside Matthew.

"Stop it!"

It was Kaliena. Although the little girl's body was trembling, her eyes were very firm. She blew her nose and said loudly, "I can testify, Mr. Lex is not the murderer!"

"On the contrary, he drove the murderer away!"

"Lies!"

Madam Paris's eyes were terrifying, and her chicken-claw-like finger pointed at Kaliena: "You are also a defiler, a polluter! Capture her too."

Lex really couldn't bear to watch any longer and was about to step forward to stop this crazy old woman when two police officers in black-and-white checkered uniforms emerged from the alley entrance.

"What are you doing? Move aside, everyone, move aside!"

The Police Station had finally arrived.

It was evening when Lex finally returned home. After the Police Station intervened in the morning, he was 'invited' to the Police Station. He voluntarily cooperated and assisted the police in handling the case.

Lex only left the Police Station when Mr. Butler arrived with the lawyer Zilif.

Additionally, Paris was detained, as she had slandered a noble.

However, the Chief stated that she would be held at most until tomorrow, as she had not committed any substantial harmful acts.

Golden Champagne Avenue, Number 13.

As Lex entered the ground floor, he saw his sister Harribel, wearing a lace-collared lady's shirt, dark breeches, and long leather boots, as if she had just returned from riding, looking over.

A hint of concern flickered in the girl's eyes.

"My dear brother, you just got back and went to the Police Station again. It seems you've been quite 'lucky' lately."

Here it comes again.

My dear sister, do you have to express your concern with sarcasm? How did you grow up all these years?

Lex smiled bitterly as he removed his top hat: "Perhaps it's because I'm the protagonist of this era?"

Harribel rolled her eyes: "Don't casually quote Emperor Rosell's classic lines."

"Alright, your brother is already tired."

His always gentle and elegant mother, Amelia, stepped forward: "Lex, go wash up, dinner will be ready soon."

"Okay, Mom."

Lex winked at Harribel, who pursed her lips and turned her face away, looking like 'I don't want to talk to you.'

Returning to his room, washing up, and changing clothes, Lex headed to the dining room.

Passing his father's study, he heard his parents arguing about something inside the room.

"...He's only eighteen. These matters are too early for him. Won't you reconsider?"

This was his mother's voice.

His father, Bison, let out a chuckle: "My dear, eighteen is not young. When I was his age, I was already on the battlefield."

"...But."

"Enough, my dear. He is the eldest son of the family, and these are responsibilities he should bear. Moreover, Lex has clearly expressed his intention to change to me."

"And I also promised to give him a chance. Now is the time."

"You should be clearer than I am that he doesn't have to bear these responsibilities."

"Amelia, mind your words!"

"I'm sorry, my dear, I just…"

Bison sighed softly: "I know what you're worried about. You're worried he'll choose that path. But my dear, you've also seen that he almost had an accident today."

"You and I both know that this world is not as peaceful and beautiful as people believe. There are some things he will have to know and face sooner or later."

So they were talking about me, worrying about me.

A warmth welled up in Lex's heart. He couldn't tell if it was the original owner's feelings or his own.

But he knew that in his previous life, he had basically never experienced this kind of family warmth.

He was born into a poor family in a remote area, with seven children, and he was the fourth oldest.

In his impression, he was just a tool for his parents to earn money. He was taken by his father to work in a factory during junior high school, and it was his school teacher who found him and, through legal means, allowed him to finish high school.

In his memory, his parents rarely discussed his future; they were more concerned about when he would graduate so he could earn money for the family.

Therefore, after the Transmigration, he did not, unlike the protagonist of Lord of the Mysteries, wish to return to his original world.

Even if this world was dangerous, strange, and mysterious.

At least, this world gave him a warm home, and a pair of parents who would worry about his future.

That was enough.

"Young Master."

Matthew's voice came from behind, startling Lex. Then footsteps sounded in the study, and the door was suddenly pulled open, his mother looking at him with a slight panic.

"Lex, when did you…"

In the study, Bison laughed heartily: "It seems he has heard, so come in."

Lex nodded slightly and walked in. Amelia instructed the butler to wait outside, then closed the door.

Bison stood up, his expression serious, his gaze pressing down on Lex as if it had weight.

It made him feel a little breathless.

"Lex, my son. Didn't you say you wanted to change, and wanted me to give you a chance to prove yourself?"

"Now I give you two choices."

"First, assist me, share my work. Your active stage will be in the political Domain and the business world. I will hand over some family industries for you to manage, you will meet people from different circles, and what you aim for will be the Upper House of Backlund!"

"Second, become the The Sword of this family, protecting and eliminating our enemies in the dark. You will become a Beyonder, possessing Beyonder abilities. You will fight against the dangers in the dark; this will be a more arduous duty!"

Lex's mind buzzed.

Beyonder?

Did this family know about the existence of Beyonder elements?
