Chapter 14 - Smart glasses (3)

I excitedly opened the box and took out the smart glasses inside.

The front had gray-green square lenses, with a silver-gray semi-rimless metal frame connected to the temples in a loop. These were a head-mounted type of glasses; the temples couldn't be folded like regular glasses, but the tightness could be adjusted according to the user's head size.

Although these game-specific smart glasses were structurally a bit larger than ordinary glasses, they were actually just as lightweight, feeling very light and comfortable to wear.

With technological advancements, current virtual reality technology has developed to the point where users can, while their body is in a resting state, use external devices to allow their subconscious mind to enter a virtual space. Inside, they can move freely, interact with people or objects in the virtual space, and receive corresponding visual, auditory, and tactile feedback.

Virtual games developed using this technology were highly controversial when first launched on the market a few years ago. Some argued that playing these games, which utilize the subconscious mind for extended periods, could potentially cause harm to the brain. Others worried that if players became overly addicted to the games, lying down for long periods without eating or drinking, it would not only affect their physical health but also impact their work or lead to neglecting their studies.

As time passed, the acceptance of virtual games gradually widened, possibly because virtual games on the market all had time limits for gameplay.

I put on the smart glasses and long-pressed the activation sensor key on the touchpad located on the outside of the left temple.

The blue light from the projector display in the corner of the frame flashed a few times. Now, looking through the lenses of the smart glasses, a projection screen visible only to me appeared in front.

The projection screen displayed the main interface of the smart glasses against a dark blue background.

I long-pressed the "Glasses Voice Assistant" icon in the lower right corner of the screen and said, "Open the Game Store, download 'War Simulation'."

Suddenly, a prompt window popped up on the main interface, showing the game download page for "War Simulation".

"Little child! Little child!"

Hearing the old lady's voice, I double-tapped the activation sensor key to turn off the projection screen within the glasses and took them off: "Grandma, what's the matter?"

"Little child, don't play for too long, so it doesn't affect your rest and recovery," the old lady reminded me.

"Thanks for the reminder, I understand."

Putting the smart glasses back on, I opened the projection screen, clicked the Game Store icon, then clicked on the "Downloaded" tab, and finally double-clicked the only black icon in the "Downloaded" interface.

Strange, I remembered the game icon for "War Simulation" was a black background with the capital letters "ZY". When was it changed to this black background with a golden skyscraper building pattern?

Just as I wanted to confirm the text below that icon, the virtual screen disappeared, and a voice came from the speaker inside the right temple: "Friendly reminder, after entering the game, your body will enter sleep mode... Please ensure there are no sharp or dangerous items around you... Please maintain a lying down position..."

Maybe Tian Xiang Company updated the game icon to coincide with a limited-time event for "War Simulation".

Thinking this, I placed the pillow flat on the hospital bed and lay down, preparing to enter the game. The sensors on the smart glasses detected my movement, and a voice sounded in my ear again: "Performing body scan... Scan complete... Your consciousness will enter the game after a 10-second countdown. Wish you a pleasant game... 10, 9, 8..."

I closed my eyes, listening to the system's countdown, gradually losing the sensation of my body's weight, and then lost all consciousness...
