Chapter 24: George: Lynn, Why Is She Looking at Me Like That?
Help them?
Help them? No way. Not in this lifetime.
'Are you kidding me?' After being reborn, Lynn's biggest wish in this life was to eat, drink, and be merry.
He was a corporate drone in his last life, and he was supposed to be a drone in this life, too?
Then what was the point of being reborn?
Anyway, this world had its superheroes to protect it. All he needed to do was keep getting stronger and enjoy himself.
Maybe, when he was strong enough, he could even check out other planets. See what the beautiful alien women might taste like.
Grabbing the truth serum, Lynn floored it and drove straight back to the hotel to find Skye.

A week later, Manhattan Police Precinct.
Walking into the main hall, Lynn spread his arms wide. "Hey everyone, did you miss me? Daddy's Home!"
Hearing his voice, the detectives all turned and collectively gave him the middle finger.
Jennifer, however, whose blue uniform perfectly traced her stunning curves, walked over with a coffee.
"So that's what you're into."
She handed Lynn the coffee, her blue eyes sparkling with a mischievous glint. "Is this why you turned down my date? Daddy?"
Watching Jennifer slowly lick her lips, Lynn took the coffee and shrugged. "You can't blame me, Jennifer. You know George is my boss."
"He warned me not to date anyone from the precinct. I had no choice. To keep my job, I had to painfully refuse the kindness of a beauty like you."
Hearing this, Jennifer frowned. "Why is George like that? It's a mutual thing. Why won't he allow it?"
Nearby, Sean—the department's simp, hearing Lynn's words, almost raised his hands to shout, "Long live George Stacy!"
If George needed votes to become governor right now, Sean would have cast his without a second thought.
"But that's okay."
Jennifer stepped closer, intimately fixing the collar of Lynn's black trench coat. "We can just date in secret. As long as George doesn't find out, right?"
Her faint perfume wafted into Lynn's nose.
Feeling Jennifer press herself against him, Lynn caught Sean's heartbroken expression out of the corner of his eye. Sean was practically begging him with his eyes.
"Ah, forget it, Jennifer. You're a good girl."
"You have to know, darling, you deserve a better love, a better family. Not a one-night stand with a vagabond like me."
With that, Lynn leaned in and kissed Jennifer on the cheek, then walked away with his coffee.
Seeing Lynn leave, Sean's eyes were filled with such gratitude, he almost dropped to his knees and called Lynn 'Daddy.'
Jennifer, however, watched Lynn's cool, handsome retreating figure, her eyes practically sparkling.

Back in the office, Lynn took off his trench coat, hung it on the rack, and let out a sigh of relief.
Jennifer was definitely gorgeous and hot, and if he'd accepted her offer right there, they could've devoured each other until sunrise.
But that was exactly the problem.
After that "enjoyable night," they'd still have to see each other the next morning.
They worked in the same place, after all.
So the "wise man" in him brushed her off — reluctantly — to avoid future trouble.
'Plenty of gorgeous women out there. Sorry, Jennifer… I can't give all that up just for you. Hope you understand.'
A short time later, George Stacy walked in, holding a briefcase in one hand and a coffee in the other.
"What's going on?"
He put his coffee on the desk, looking confused. "Why did Jennifer just glare at me, give me a 'hmph,' and then storm off?"
"How should I know?"
Lynn put his feet up on his desk and leaned back, hands behind his head. "Maybe it's her period? You know how women are. They need understanding, especially... during that time."
"We men can't even imagine what that's like, so we should be more considerate."
George Stacy felt like there was something off about that sentence.
But he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He just opened his briefcase and took out a lunch box.
Inside, three perfectly cut sandwiches were arranged neatly.
Seeing them, Lynn didn't hesitate. He swung his feet off the desk and grabbed one.
George Stacy was long past being surprised by this.
This partner of his had no shame.
"Mm, not bad. Helen make these? Or Gwen?"
At the compliment, George Stacy beamed with fatherly pride. "It was Gwen. She got up early this morning to make them herself."
"Gwen's getting more and more…"
He stopped mid-sentence, suddenly looking at Lynn with suspicion. "Damn it! Don't forget what I said! You stay away from Gwen!"
The only reply this old man, terrified of his prize cabbage being stolen by a pig, got was Lynn's middle finger. "I told you, I'm not interested in minors."
"It doesn't count even when she turns eighteen next year!"
"Alright, alright, I get it! You're going to talk my ear off."
Lynn waved his hand, tossing the last bite of sandwich into his mouth.
He reached for a second one, but George Stacy quickly slammed the lid shut. "My daughter made these for me. If you want one, go buy your own."
"Look at you, acting like such a Scrooge."
With nothing to eat, Lynn wiped his hands on a napkin and picked up a magazine.
George Stacy, meanwhile, carefully placed the lunch box in his desk drawer.
He glanced at Lynn... then, just to be safe, he locked the drawer.
"Really? Is there no trust left in the world, George? You're breaking my heart."
George ignored him and started reading a case file.
Some time later, the phone on his desk rang.
George put down the file and picked up. His face immediately tensed. "Got it. We're on our way."
The second he hung up, George stood and said, "Lynn, move. We're backing up the our guys. Grab your vest and a submachine gun, now!"
Seeing George's serious expression, Lynn knew it was big.
The Criminal Investigation Division didn't roll out for just anything, and they certainly didn't grab vests and SMGs.
Lynn went to the armory and got their gear. By the time he got back, George was hanging up the phone again.
They geared up. As they walked out, they saw at least thirty other officers in the precinct, all in full tactical gear, ready to move out.
"What's with the army, George? Don't tell me the aliens are back."
"If they are, call the Avengers. This gear isn't going to do squat against aliens."
George took the SMG from Lynn. "It's not aliens. But this is serious."
