Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

As Lorraine said those words, a memory that Marina didn't know she had, fluttered to the forefront of her mind.

Flashback

"My dear child," said a voice so gentle that it evoked tears from Marina.

"What did you lose?" The voice asked and Estania shook her head crying.

"Everything." Estania said with a blank look as tears poured from her eyes.

"My mate, my parents, my kingdom." Estania said slightly heaving.

"Not one of them remains with me." Estania said blankly as tears continued to pour from her eyes.

Flashback end.

"Your soul begged for help and the Goddess saved you." Lorraine said to Marina.

"Save me?" Lorraine said with a light chuckle.

"If she really intended to save me, why did she give me my memories back?" Marina said and a single tear dropped from her eye.

"I would have been fine not knowing who I was." Marina said and Lorraine didn't know what to say.

"What do I expect of a Goddess?" Marina asked with a scoff.

"They never take into account the impact they have on us mere mortals." Marina said with a sad smile.

Removing a rag from a tool kit around her waist, Princess Marina wiped off a sigil and in an instant the magic circle stopped glowing. Seeing that Lorraine could now move, Princess Marina turned around to leave.

"The Goddess doesn't mean to hurt you." Lorraine said in a hurry.

"She sent me here to watch over and protect you." Lorraine said, stepping closer to Princess Marina.

"I don't know what her exact plans are but I know that it isn't to hurt you." Lorraine said in a pleading tone but Princess Marina only nodded and walked away.

Walking back to her room, Princess Marina stepped into the pit with the two bestia and laid in between them.

A pin drop could be heard the next morning as Estile brushed the Princess's hair. The silence in the room was so loud that even the bestiae in the room didn't make a sound. Looking from her daughter to the princess she was dressing up, Estille thought "Did yesterday not go well?".

Clearing her throat, Estille asked "So how was yesterday?" to break the ice but the silence after that question was about even worse.

Clearing her throat again, Estile said "I am sure this gloominess is because you two didn't spend enough time together yesterday."

"This time, I will do some of Lorraine's chores so that you will have an ample amount of time to spend with each other." Estille said with a smile.

Lorraine and Marina moved to make an excuse but stopped when they saw Estile's dejected smile.

Resigning themselves to their fate, Princess Marina and Lorraine agreed to play with each other. Heading to the door with the bestiae in tow, Princess Marina gestured to the bestiae and the guards levitated them.

Heading to the pavilion, the guards gently dropped the bestiae in the field around the pavillion and dismissed themselves. Taking a sit on a chair, Marina watched as a servant brought tea and snacks and excused themselves.

Taking a sip of her tea, Princess Marina watched as Lorraine stared at the bestiae.

"You can pet them you know?" Marina said but Lorraine didn't move.

Nodding her head to her bestiae, Princess Marina watched as the bestiae moved towards Lorraine and stopped mere inches from her. Staring at them for a minute longer, Lorraine dropped to her knees and hugged the bestiae to her chest.

"I thought they wouldn't be any uncorrupted bestia left." Lorraine said as she rubbed her cheek on Luna's cheek.

"Why is that?" Marina asked with mild curiosity.

"The bestiae were corrupted in the day where the Goddess's presence was faint." Lorraine said with a sad smile.

"My mom, dad, everyone was corrupted within minutes." Lorraine said and Marina saw herself in her.

"The Goddess tried to stop it, but thecorruption was irreversible." Lorraine said in a defeated voice and Marina scoffed.

"Or she abondonded you." Marina said dropping her teacup.

""On the day the Goddess's presence was faint" What a joke?." Princess Marina said and Lorraine stood up abruptly.

"The bestiae are her first children, we were born long before humans and stood as their protectors when they first came to be. The Goddess can not abondon us!" Lorraine said fiercely.

"Then why hasn't the corruption been reversed?" Marina said with in a mocking tone.

"Why hasn't your Goddess delivered your people?!" Marina asked in rage.

"Because it's out of her hands." Lorraine said quietly.

"On the day of corruption the Goddess lost one million humans to the bestiae but she searched through Pyrah for days for bestiae that were uncorrupted. She tried to revert the corruption forcefully but she lost five hundred bestiae at once." Lorraine said, wiping the tears from her cheek.

"This two being here is like a miracle because I know what my Goddess went through when she saw the state of her bestiae and when she had to give her second creation the power to destroy her first creations!" Lorraine said in rage.

"You may hate your Goddess but I love mine." Lorraine said with an icy glare.

"If you will excuse me Princess Marina, my mother could use some help with her chores." Lorraine said, before excusing herself.
