CHAPTER 27: THE COUNCIL TURNS
DANIEL'S POV
"Daniel, gather everyone into the council chambers. We have things to discuss." Elder Varris's voice crackled through the mind-link, sounding like dry parchment rubbing together.
I leaned my head against the cool stone of the corridor wall and sighed, a deep, bone-weary sound. "Even the Alpha?"
"Especially the Alpha," Varris affirmed, leaving no room for argument.
"Alright, yeah. I'm on it."
I pushed off the wall and started walking. Blackmoor was different today. The air was thick with the scent of pine and damp earth, but beneath it was a tension that felt like a bowstring drawn too tight. Usually, the pack house was a place of rowdy laughter and the heavy scent of roasted meat, but now, the warriors moved in silence, their eyes darting toward the upper floors where she was recovering.
I opened the high-level mind-link, the one accessible only to the inner circle: Myself, Caleb, Marcus, and Lucien.
