Riley sat on the sofa, her face buried in her palms as she tried to make sense of everything. It felt like a bad movie she couldn't walk away from, but it wasn't a movie. It was her life, and she had no choice but to face it.
Her luggage were still by the door, reminding her that she had just packed out of her father's house. The same house they all lived in, the same house she grew up in, now gone. The officers said the place was mortgaged a month ago and the document carried her father's signature. It was hard to believe, but the truth was right there staring at her and she couldn't deny it.
It had happened, and now she had to think of what to do next.
She had moved to Lillian's place for now, hoping she could at least breathe while she figured out how to fix her life.
"You should eat a little," her best friend said softly, holding a tray of food. "We are going to the hospital later and you need strength."
