Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Be My Assistant!

Carabella was still performing her first task in this luxurious residence. She tidied up the homeowner's private room, which was larger than the guest room, tiring her out quickly. First, she swept the room, mopped the floor, and then tidied up the desk, which was a bit messy because the homeowner had left several documents piled up there.

This room was the last room she cleaned for the day. While being a housemaid in this house initially sounded simple, she hadn't expected it to drain so much energy that she was gasping for breath. In fact, to her, this job was no different from being a gardener, except it didn't involve exposing her skin to the sun.

Now she lay down on the sofa to rest for a moment. She was already feeling exhausted after just her first day at work, and what more would she feel tomorrow and beyond? Would she be able to complete this kind of work every day?

A heavy sigh escaped her lips. Her eyes were closed, her body curled up on the sofa.

"Why are you sleeping in broad daylight like this?"

Hearing the annoying man's voice made Carabella immediately sit up and lower her head. She hadn't expected the homeowner to come home so suddenly in the middle of the day.

"Sorry, I almost fell asleep by accident because I just finished cleaning your house."

A mischievous smile spread across his handsome face. He sat next to this sweet woman, gazing at her with a focused gaze. "Do you think my house is too big for you?"

"Actually, when it comes to cleaning the house, I feel it's too big. But that doesn't mean I'm saying this house is ugly and uncomfortable to live in."

"Then, I guess I'll be hiring a new housekeeper."

Her eyes widened and her mouth dropped open. "Wait a minute! Didn't you say yesterday that you were only recruiting me? Why do you suddenly want to recruit someone new?"

"Because you don't look like you can clean this house by yourself."

Carabella had expected to be scolded for considering this job so trivial that she nearly fell asleep. She immediately lowered her head and rubbed her palms. If she were to compare cleaning the house with being a gardener, she would much rather work here, even though she had to deal with annoying men every day.

"Please, don't fire me! Next time I won't sleep in broad daylight."

"This is the result of you being lazy on your first day, I will punish you!"

"What punishment? Do you want to fire me?"

Jefferson spontaneously touched both of their soft hands. "I won't fire you because we already signed a contract."

"Then, what punishment will you give me?"

"Actually, the reason I came home suddenly was because I wanted to tell you something."

"Is it related to salary cuts?"

Jefferson laughed so hard his face turned red. "Ella, do I look cruel enough to go that far?"

"You're usually such a perfectionist. It must make you angry to see people around you acting less than you expected."

"You guessed wrong. In fact, I want to recruit you as my assistant."

"Haven't I been acting as your housekeeper?"

"Not as a housekeeper." His right hand touched the pointed chin in front of him. "But as my personal assistant."

Her eyes widened at the joke, causing her to cough repeatedly. "Are you crazy?!"

Her hands were folded. "Why did you respond to me like that when I meant well for you?"

"I think this is absolutely ridiculous! I have no experience in this field, but you suddenly offered me this position."

"Because I only recruit people I trust."

"Then what about Raul? Do you want to fire him?"

"No. But, I need two personal assistants right now."

Carabella rolled her eyes and slapped her forehead. "Jefferson, I don't want to play with you now."

"I don't want to play with you either. I'm very busy."

"But, I don't want to be your assistant. Do you want everyone to misunderstand you? Especially since I'll be accused of being your mistress!"

"I won't. I have a strong reason not to accuse you of anything." Jefferson stood up from the sofa for a moment, tucking his hands into his jacket pockets. "I need a female personal assistant to assist me in preparing for my wedding, too."

"So, you deliberately used me just to show off your relationship?"

His gaze sharpened at the sensitive question. "If you keep nagging, I'll fire you for real. I'll tell my father you broke your promise."

Hearing that threat made her afraid to utter another word. Her saliva was hard to swallow, and cold sweat began to trickle down her neck. If she acted selfishly, she wouldn't survive. Her life was now completely controlled by Jefferson, making her want to beat the man who caused it to the ground.

"Okay, I will be your personal assistant."

A mischievous smile returned to his handsome face. "So you still remember the contents of our contract."

"Of course, I don't want to pay the fine using my savings."

"Then, come with me now to the shopping mall."

The boutique she visited now was usually only accessible to wealthy families. The opulence of all the products sold, as well as the interior, made Carabella feel very awkward walking in. Even though the boutique was only visited by them, Carabella was worried that someone was secretly watching her, considering that news of Jefferson's wedding was quite popular on social media. She was afraid of being rumored to be Jefferson's mistress amidst the wedding preparations.

Jefferson's continued introduction of various formal and casual dresses into the royal family has made Carabella uncomfortable. Furthermore, Jefferson doesn't care about price; is this the true lifestyle of the wealthy? Still, she feels very embarrassed by Jefferson for giving her such expensive items.

"Jefferson, I will not accept all these gifts!"

"If you want to work with me, you have to use all my gifts!"

"But, this is all too expensive. Especially since you bought me a branded watch too!"

He looked up at her tiny face and smiled mischievously. "I have a magic card that can buy anything."

In the midst of their argument, a man watched them from outside the boutique.
