Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Silent as Graveyard

**************

TWO YEARS LATER......….

After spending two years living in the Brook Mansion and working hard to hone her skills at the fashion university, April Carter is already looking like a different person. Her real self smart and active personality has outshined her once- timid demeanor which gave way to confidence and poise thanks to the support of grandfather Brook who stood with her.

As she walks through the mansion's hallway, her black Luobuotin heels clicking the marble floor and her long black ponytail hair bouncing as she knocks on the door to old man Brook's study.

"Grandfather, it's me, April." Her tiny voice sounding clear and sweet.

"April my dear, quickly come in." Old man Brook stood up from his seat in a rush to hug her as he smiled heartily.

"You are looking radiant."

"Thank you, Grandfather, it's all thanks to your care." April smiled.

Swiftly, someone knocked on the door. "Grandfather, it's Olivia." Old man brook allowed her to come in.

"What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be with your husband?" Old man brook scolded.

"Ay, father, you know I can't do without seeing you for one day." Olivia chuckled.

"You're a grown up now, stop acting like a baby." He cleared his throat.

"Ohh! April, you're looking so pretty. Is there an important occasion?" Olivia asked still staring at April's double breasted blazer dress.

"Yes, Aunt Olivia, I have a presentation at school this morning, external consultants will be present." April smiled and checked her phone for the time.

"Grandfather, I'm leaving now. I have to meet up with time for the presentation." April said hugging old man Brook by the side as she strolled out the study.

"Wish you luck!"

"Thank you, Grandfather."

April has made it one of her responsibilities to greet old man Brook every morning and keep him company.

Immediately she came out of the study and walked towards the sitting room, judith appeared before her suddenly.

"G-good morning, Aunt Judith." April lowered her head as her lips tightened.

"I don't understand what is good about this morning, hmm? Since you came into this house, nothing has been good. Let me make one thing clear to you, you don't belong here, and you'll never be accepted." Judith whispered.

She couldn't raise her voice at April because she knew her father in law has his eyes everywhere and would know about it. It was best to avoid the trouble after she barely regained her title as the madam of the house.

"And one more thing, I am Madam Brook to you. Don't you ever address me as Aunt Judith." She scolded.

"Yes, Madam Brook."

April stood for a while before going up the stairs to her room to pack her things as she crossed path with Lucas who was walking down the stairs.

"Go-good- morning Mr Brook." April stuttered.

"Hm!" Lucas answered immediately without a single glance and left to old man Brook's study.

April sighed in relief and quickly climbed up the stairs to her room. Lucas most especially is one of the people that frightens her in the brook mansion.

In the past two years she has lived in that house, she always gets frightened by his presence the most.

Swiftly, she finished packing important items needed during the presentation and made her way out the room. She strolled down the stairs and met old man Brook and Lucas standing.

"Grandfather, I'm leaving now." April smiled.

"Oh! That's good. Why don't you go with Lucas , let him drop you off at school." Old man smiled.

"Grandfather, I'm fine. I'll take the taxi instead. It will be faster that way."

"I insist. Allow him to drop you off at school, only then will I feel at ease."

April glanced at Lucas to see his reaction, but she met his cold straight face instead.

"Ok grandfather, I'll go with him." April agreed with a sigh and waited for Lucas to go outside before following behind him.

His favorite Ford Mustang sport car was already out of the parking lot, so they only needed to enter and move.

The next thing that happened had April's eyes widened. Lucas opened the door of the car for her and waited for her to sit down before closing the door.

April was surprised by his sudden gentleman attitude as she thought he would be cold to her. She wondered what made him do that, especially to someone like her.

The sound in the car was as silent as a graveyard, no side talk, no music, just cold stare and glances. April didn't know what to do and instead kept her eyes on the window.

Immediately Lucas dropped her off at the entrance, she sighed for relief deeply while she grabs her trembling legs.

This is the first time April had to stay with Lucas for that long, just the two of them. For the two years they've lived together under one roof, they never even had a conversation for once.

The only bond she managed to have is with old man Brook, Olivia and Evan along with a few housemaids assigned to help her.

.......

Back at the Brook mansion, Judith is already making preparations for Lynn Carter to stay in the house without old man Brook's permission. She thought if she doesn't make mention of it beforehand then the old man wouldn't think of sending Lynn away.

She quickly rushed the housemaids to prepare her a room and added extra plates for dinner.

It took her a year and six months to finally regain her title and responsibility as madam of the house. So she thought she had kept quiet for too long and it's time to continue her plan to get Lynn married to Lucas before old man brook makes his own decision.

"What's the occasion today for us to have this feast prepared" Olivia walked into the kitchen glancing at the dishes prepared on the island table.

"I don't think any of this is your business" Judith frowned.

"And I don't think you have the right to tell me anything happening in my father's house is none of my business."

"You can tell your husband to vacate your things from this house then. I mean, I'm just trying to refresh your memories." Olivia chuckled.
