Yes, Cloud doesn't understand what they're saying at all. They speak different languages.
Cloud is shock. His mind goes blank. He doesn't expect this at all and he doesn't know what to do for a while.
But since he sees that the two in front of him is pointing their weapons at him, his first raise his hands to show that he mean no harm.
Seeing that, the two guards didn't attack him. They speak a couple more times in which Cloud reply in his own language.
"What the hell is he talking about? Do you understand his words?" One of the guard speak to the other.
The other guard shook his head, Indicating that he also doesn't understand.
"Is he from faraway land?"
"Who knows."
"Anyway you go call the village chief. I'll watch him."
One of the guard then run into the village.
Cloud just watching while still raising his hands. At this point he is thinking rapidly in his mind.
Now he is almost certain that he is not in a virtual reality world.
After all no matter how realistic they would make virtual reality they wouldn't make one where people need to learn foreign language at the beginning of the game. That would be too much.
Then that leaves transmigration. Usually when transmigrating, the main character would have an identity and also some memories that would help them at the beginning.
But it seems that Cloud doesn't get any of that.
That also means that he doesn't get basic language to start.
He always thought that the stories of main characters that transmigrate and get some memories from the previous owner of the body is quite ridiculous.
After all, if you get more than a dozen years of memories in one go as a normal human being you wouldn't be able to take it. Your head would explode.
If it doesn't explode then you would go crazy instead from the mix of memories.
After all, more than a dozen years of memories is not little.
But Cloud doesn't expect that he would be in this position.
Now he envy that main characters that gain such a privilege at the start of their journey.
But he didn't think to much about it and move on. After all he doesn't know what's gonna happen to him next.
The two doesn't wait long. In just a bit of time the guard that ran into the village ran back with an elderly man.
When they arrive, the elder try to speak with Cloud while he reply in his own language.
The elder is surprised. At first he thought that the guard is playing with him. But now that he heard it himself, he can't deny it.
"So chief do you know what he's talking about?" One of the guard ask.
The chief shake his head.
"Then what do we do? He looks suspicious."
"Is he perhaps a bandit trying to deceive us?" The other guard ask warily.
"Is he alone?" The village chief ask.
"He is."
"Go call hunter Hong. Tell him to bring his gear and a few man to look around the area."
One of the guard then run back into the village at this command.
While waiting, the chief try to talk more with Cloud but they still can't understand each other at all.
