The fight went on for what seems to be eternity.
At least that's what feels like for the villagers, especially Hong, Cloud, and the hunters whom act as vanguard.
They keep killing and killing but they can't seem to see the end. There seems to be just as much beasts in front of the gate as before.
The gate can't hold on much longer at this point. It's been bitten, clawed, hit many times by many kinds of beasts.
It is just a wall of long sticks after all. Although it was made carefully with sturdiness and durability in mind, there is still a limit to what a wall made from wooden sticks can take.
At one point there come a loud bellow coming from behind the group of small beasts that are attacking the gate.
At that bellow the beasts stop attacking the gate and after a brief pause they make way.
When the beasts separate to make way, the people inside the village sees that a rhinoceros is preparing to charge from some distance away.
The rhino, along with a few other big beasts like bear, tiger, giraffe, and gorilla hasn't make their move yet from the beginning.
Only now that they see an opportunity that they start to make their move.
After a bit of preparation the rhino charge toward the gate.
It move slowly at first but gradually it becomes faster and faster.
The people who sees this start to panic and scramble. Some even shout toward the other to move away from the gate.
Everyone can see that the gate has already significantly weakened by the previous wave of attack, so everyone is sure that it definitely wouldn't be able to take the blow from the charging rhino.
When everyone is scrambling away from the gate, the rhino is already on it.
It effortlessly charge past the gate like it was nothing, opening a big hole behind it for other beasts to pass.
But after breaking the gate it didn't continue its charge and stop nearby. It seems to be intelligent enough to wait for other beasts and not charging by itself.
The smaller beasts pouring through the hole from the gate behind the rhino, followed by the bigger beasts like the tiger and the others.
Lastly, the menacing big black bear come through while swiping the gate with it's paw.
The gate is broken even further, leaving a much bigger hole than the one left by the rhino.
The beasts pause for a moment until they hear the loud roar from the bear. Then they start to move and resume their attacks.
At this point even the bigger beasts also move. Before, the space was to narrow. Now after entering the village there is enough space for them all to make their moves.
But not to be outdone, the chief also shout his orders to the people at the same time the beasts make their move.
Even though the chief is quite old, he seems to still be very energetic.
Usually he looks thin and seems frail but with his straight and small posture, his shouts is not any worse compared to generals at war.
The people move right away. The shouts from the chief give their bodies strength to fight.
They move according to the order and forming a half circle formation to surround the beasts.
The hunters is also separated throughout the half circle formation with Hong at the middle of the formation.
With this the battle resumes.
The people of the village manage to hold the line briefly but they start struggling soon after.
This is not like when they were at the gate after all.
The beasts flood them with their advantage in number. The villagers start struggling against them.
At the gate, only a few would come at a time and the villagers would kill the beasts together.
This time however, they need to fight one or even a few by themselves.
The hunters would help reduce their burdens by performing more actively compared to the villagers but they soon met by the bigger beasts each.
Then they slowed down significantly in killing the smaller beasts because they have to defend against the bigger beasts and they don't have the strength to kill those right away.
They even started to struggle themselves.
Only Hong the strongest and Cloud the second strongest can face the big beasts without difficulty.
Seeing that the formation can't hold on any longer Hong start to unleash his full strength.
Wielding his weapon, a very heavy great sword he charge through the beasts in front of him.
With one swing of his big sword he sever a few small beasts in two. With a few more swings he pretty much clear the small beasts in front of him.
After that he charge at the tiger in front of him right away.
Hong overwhelm the tiger with his attacks and after several slashes the tiger can't keep up anymore and got severed in half by Hong's sword.
After killing the tiger, Hong took a few breath while looking around the battlefield.
To his right is where Cloud is who is fighting against a bloodied giraffe. It appears that it won't be long until Cloud kill the giraffe.
After seeing that, Hong decides to run to the left where the formation is on the verge of collapse.
He thinks that the right should be able to last longer since he believes that Cloud can hold that area.
At that moment Cloud finally kill the giraffe. He look at Hong that is running toward the left area and understand his intention right away, so he move accordingly.
With his weapon, a short blade that was given by Hong some time ago since it's something that Hong never used, he clear the small beasts around him then move to help the hunters around his area.
The formation manage to hold in this manner.
Hong move to the left and focus on killing the big beasts one by one. He doesn't need to worry about the small beasts. The hunter and villager in the area can handle those once he kill the bigger beast.
Cloud also help the hunter around his area to kill the bigger beasts first.
There are two in his area along with two hunters so he help one at a time.
After killing the two bigger beasts he clear the small beasts with the others.
He finish around the same time when Hong finish killing all the big beasts on the left.
There are three more beasts on the left after Hong killed the tiger so that's the reason they finished at the same time.
When Hong finally manage to kill the last big beast, he was already panting, clearly drained.
But before he can even take a proper breath, an angry roar came from behind him.
It was so loud and it came right from his back.
Before he even get the chance to turn and look, a massive bear paw is already coming from his right.
He doesn't even have time to react and the paw hit his right arm and body. It send him flying to his left.
His body hit the ground a few times before coming to a stop.
"Spirit Beast...." Said the chief in a low voice when he saw that.
