Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Prelude to Death

Two days later.

The lively town festival celebration finally commenced.

A joyful atmosphere permeated the entire town.

Colorful flags hung in every corner of the town, and people throughout the town wore special festival celebration attire.

In the town center square, the townspeople displayed their agricultural products for sale.

Amidst the bustling crowd, the sounds of boisterous voices were everywhere.

Mark followed behind Peter, his eyes dazzled.

"Hey, Patrick."

Neil, dressed in festival celebration attire, greeted Peter warmly.

Lana, standing beside her, wore a light green dress and a flower wreath on her head, shyly greeting Peter.

"Uncle Patrick."

"Lana looks beautiful today."

Peter stroked the flower wreath on Lana's head and replied to Neil, "Just call me Peter."

Neil, tall with long legs and quite the mature woman, looked especially charming when dressed up.

Peter glanced at Mark.

He had initially thought that Mark would be like Clark, interested in chasing after young girls like Lana.

Unexpectedly, Mark's gaze kept secretly peeking at Neil.

Peter's face was covered in black lines.

This kid truly never changes!

Even after being reborn, he's still interested in mature women, just like in his previous life.

No, wait!

Peter stroked his chin, lost in thought.

In this life, Mark still doesn't have a mother. Could this lack of maternal love make him awaken this preference for mature women?

Perhaps I should find a mother for Mark to compensate for his lack of maternal love.

Wonder Woman, Queen of the Sea, or Catwoman?

These female superheroes, whom he was more familiar with, entered his selection list.

There was no other way; he only knew so many female superheroes.

Normal people were not within his selection range; he was afraid Mark would crush them to death if he exerted himself.

Amidst his self-imposed worries, night quickly fell.

In the Great Hall in the town center, the townspeople began watching the song and dance performance.

Before the performance began, Father Norma, who had been absent for a long time, finally appeared and delivered a speech on stage.

Peter stared at this guy, who had been in Metropolis for the past few days and was nowhere to be seen, and his eyes narrowed.

After speaking a few words, the old man hurried backstage.

After telling Neil beside him to help look after Mark, Peter immediately followed him out.

After Father Norma left the Great Hall, he hurried towards his home.

Entering the Underground Room of his study again, taking out the black magic book, Father Norma left in a hurry.

After he left, Peter slowly appeared from the Shadow.

Standing in Father Norma's house, he entered the study, pushed open the study door, and went into the Underground Room.

The interior of the Underground Room was very dark, and the canvas piled in the corner gave off an old paint smell.

An altar was placed in the center of the room, with dim Shadows standing around like Sentinels.

Peter's visual senses could still see everything clearly in the Dark Dimension.

He slowly walked towards the altar.

The altar was adorned with candles and sacrificial skull bones, which glowed like amber lagoons.

His gaze fell on the yellowed calendar on the wall.

On the calendar, someone had vaguely drawn the outline of a Shadow with a red pen.

Examining everything around him, Peter's brows furrowed.

Is this old man Father Norma performing Black Magic?

He immediately connected the revived walking corpses to Father Norma.

At the same time.

In the Great Hall, soft dim light lay beneath the orange light spots, as if the afterglow of the setting sun was burning like Fire.

Clark stood on the outskirts of the dance floor, watching the crowd inside.

"If you want to dance, Clark, you can invite a girl."

Mark had appeared behind Clark at some point.

"I can't dance, Mark."

"Neither can I. It's normal for children not to dance, so you don't need to be envious. Hey, Lana."

Mark said, turning around to greet Lana.

"Hello, both of you."

Lana greeted the two generously.

Clark, however, was a little red-faced. He secretly glanced at Lana, thinking her dress today was very beautiful.

Moreover, Lana smelled of Avon soap and Juicy Fruit gum, which made him a little nervous.

"Lana, I… we scared your horse last time, I'm sorry."

Clark thought for a long time and finally found a reason to strike up a conversation.

"I've already forgotten about it."

Lana indicated that she didn't mind, "Uncle Patrick saved me, and Aunt Nier told me to thank Uncle Patrick properly."

She had a very good impression of Peter, feeling that he was the standard knight in her mind.

If she were a princess, she would definitely have such a knight protect her.

But soon she became dejected.

Aunt Nier said she was Cinderella.

Cinderella turns into an ugly duckling at midnight, which made her a little sad.

Just as Lana was pondering why Cinderella's magic disappeared at midnight, she suddenly heard a scream.

Startled, she turned around and saw a scene that would haunt her for the rest of her life.

A man with a pale face, covered in sticky blood, and a mouth almost ripped to the back of his head, suddenly attacked the audience in the Great Hall like a madman.

"Screech!"

Blood instantly spurted from the neck of the bitten audience member.

The monster, emitting a low growl from its throat, instantly caused the closest few people to fall to the ground and die.

All of this happened within one or two minutes; no one understood what was happening, and everyone was stunned.

Clark and Mark also witnessed this scene, their mouths slightly open, staring in shock at the impactful sight before them.

Then screams erupted, and the crowd made terrified sounds, starting to scatter and flee.

Mark was the first to react, pulling Clark and Lana towards the door.

According to the escape knowledge Peter taught him, the first thing to do now was to escape this confined environment.

When the Mark trio ran near the main entrance, they found that everyone else had the same idea.

Countless audience members crowded near the main entrance, but the sturdy door was suddenly locked tightly.

No matter how hard the crowd pushed and slammed the door, the iron door remained motionless.

The first group of people who rushed over were squeezed breathless, uttering curses and cries.

"Clark! Mark!"

Jonathan and Martha were separated by the crowd, and as they were carried forward by the human flow, they loudly called out both their names.

Neil's heart was burning with anxiety at this moment; not only was her niece missing, but Mark, whom Peter had entrusted her to look after, had also disappeared.

"Fire exit!"

Mark, almost suffocating from the squeeze, immediately shouted to the two, "Father said that in case of an accident, you can—you can escape through the fire exit."

With that, he struggled to push forward, pulling away the blocking crowd along the way.

Clark counted very clearly; Mark slapped two boys in the middle and punched a screaming man in the eye.
