Chapter 20 - Recovering

After everything was said an done, Jairo was lying up against a tree, getting ointment applied from Ariel, wincing back as she applied it to a cut on his face.

she held his face still. "don't cry now. this is what you wanted to happen" she said, continuing to apply the green paste to him. 'besides, it hurts me seeing you like this.' the only reason she did not drag him off of that hill the first time he made that stupid suggestion was because he did need all the training he could get.

the problem was, at that point they had both overestimated just how much he could do. after just a few minutes he was overwhelmed. she would have to make better decisions for him in the future.

seeing her adorable Jairo with cuts along his chest, shoulders and even the cut on his face, it made her livid. why did she even bring him here? why didn't she just trust her gut that was telling her it was a bad idea? unfortunately, her thoughts seemed to have shown on her face as Jairo looked to her questioningly. "Are you alright? Im really sorry. I know I messed up andI know you care for me, but some day I won't have you in my corner. I may have to go through worse that this. I had to see my true limit.'

that said, even the thought of Ariel not being in his corner was a terrifying one. from the moment he had first came to this world she was there.

he was soon to be surrounded by a bunch of strangers who did not have his best intentions. and as he looked at Ariel, who seemed to want to protect him with all her might for as long as she could, the idea of leaving could not have felt more like a curse.

and it began to make him angry. Just imagining being with a bunch of men who seemed to want to die. fighting for a home he has been in for a week. thoughts like this were draining on the mind, but oh well. being an optimist was difficult damnit.

That said, he was done thinking negatively.

he would have shook his head, but he felt like he could barely even move at the moment. besides Ariell was right there. it was insulting to think of anything else.

Ariel herself was looking to Jairo. he seemed to be more calmly letting him apply the ointment, simply looking at her, or the rays of the setting sun hitting the hills behind her. he did still move, but barely and it was off of pure instinct. He was holding himself extremely still

she still had this urge to protect him all the time. One time two years back, Jairo was being harassed by a group of boys had tried to attack him, pick on on him and take his things.

he had come her way and didn't say anything about them, diverting to other topics when asked. one day they, and a few others were attacked by the edge of their territory by the Neighboring Kobolds, as they were idiots who wanted to play with death by antagonizing the mortal enemy.

after they incurred these injuries they suddenly left the village, never to return. at least that was the story. and that was how it would stay.

As she finished applying it to his body, she got a good look at him. Jairo was visually stunning overall. his fur was naturally more smooth and seemed to glimmer under the sun. it was a light grey, and matched his unnatural silver eyes.

In truth it made him appear beautiful, but alien, Hence the bullying. a smidge of jealousy had something to do with it, but mostly it was because people didn't like to see anything different.

After his first training session with the group, Nero even ran up to her, asking if he was a girl despite seeing no upper covering just to be sure. it was truly odd.

she began applying ointment to his fingers, and at this point he had involuntarily jolted up from the pain. "are you alright?" Ariel said, stopping everything to check up on him. "yes." he said taking a breather. 'god I am so pathetic' soon he would simply be taking injuries with nobody but himself, and probably an understaffed medic. he was not exited

'after she had finished, she placed them in wraps.

When she was finally done, Ariel had grabbed the back of his head, pulling him in closer so that it rested on her shoulder.

"you've faced enough trouble for now. in the next few minutes, well get up and go home."

he tried to argue, but she was already shuffling so that she could lean on the tree before pulling him so that he could lay onto her. At that point all discussions were put to rest. It was either lay in her warmth or to not, but that wasn't much of a choice at all. he felt like someone should say something, but it wouldn't be him.
