Everything seemed to fly in slow motion to Jairo now. It didn't even seem real. The opportunity to escape, never have to fight for his life was right there, in the moment it was told to him as Ariel guaranteed, it was so real he could touch it.
A rug pull wasn't even beginning to describe the frustration he felt at the moment.
Caspien casually strolled past Jairo, to the man who was pinned to the wall, blood dripped down from his wound. He looked teeeible now that the fight was over.
"Oh, and look at the poor soul you left all but dismantled. I had no idea you could do something like this to a man."
Caspien said with an impress tone. If this was an attempt the flatter Jairo it was failing. Could nothing drop from the ground and just crush him? Perhaps he could still make a getaway.
'If the universe truly cared about me, it would airdrop this small favor right?'
He was looking up and praying inwardly.
Unfortunately for Jairo, Caspien had no knowledge nor care about what was happening in his head. He walked over to the wolf who was pinned, and nodded.
"What are you here for trouble maker?"
The man looked to him with very lazy eyes and little care for his authority. "What do I gain from telling you?"
Caspien still maintained a smile, but he tilted his head just a little, and his ears flapped. He raised one hand and flicked the blade, causing the other wolf even more pain, to the point that he reeled his head back from the pain.
The heavy grunt the he gave brought Jairos attention back to him. He looked at the suspicious man with utter disgust. "You gain the ability to live longer. "I am one of thirty captains of the silver fangs, and if you dare to question my authority again I can make your life much harder.
Impossible even."
He leaned in closer. "Now I will ask you again, why are you here?"
The man shivered before giving in. "I work for a small group of mercinaries in a nearby villiage. I was running away, but got caught up in your war with the kobolds, so I got stuck. I only wish to make enough money to get back home."
Caspien put and hand over his mouth. "Possible, but most likely a half-truth. All is well reguardless as I know the perfect place where you can earn your stay the right way."
Just then, Some people came out, clothing more draped over them. They were the assistants of granny.
The came in, two grabbed the blade and quickly pulled it out. The moment the man collapsed, the other two quickly held him and began putting him into a small Litter, two poles with cloth slung in between as they began to carry him away.
"Be careful now. That's a new soldier who reluctantly beginning to accept his role."
After they had left, he turned to Jairo. "I'm happy this all worked out."
Jairo turned to him. "If I looked like I was about to die, and you saw it, why did you not step in?"
He had to put immense strain onto himself to be as neutral as possible. He had already been in a fight Immediately after waking up and he did not need another.
Though it probably wouldn't be much of a fight anyway. He was sure to lose.
"I had to see what you could do. it was really trusting your ability. and im glad I did. Did you see how you looked back there? even I was scared to introduce myself. for a second I thought you may truly kill him."
Unfortunately flattery didn't work on the people you're sending to war.
Jairo nodded. "I see."
Caspien slapped his back. "See? I knew we would hit it off once you got away from those friends of yours. You're quite understanding after all."
At this point it felt like an insult. The world was trying to make him anger someone in power and have his head removed from his body.
Just then, he had remembered what he was here for. Jairo had felt the lady tap him and turned his head quickly. "Hello?"
The woman looked to him with a expression of gratitude. "Thank you. I don't know how things would've gone if I had been there alone."
Jairo shook his head. "Don't worry about it. I guess it was just meant to happen. Besides, you could have beaten him on your own." Jairo said with a blissful smile.
"Well I wasn't so confident." The woman said.
Jairo shook his head. "Well don't think about it any longer. Bad thoughts are powerful. You'll only ruin your own mood."
"You've saved my life, and now you're trying to save my feelings. Who are you?"
"My name is Jairo." He replied.
The lady smiled. "That is a nice name. Mine is
Annabel."
Jairo nodded. "I'll remember it well."
"As will I yours." Annabel replied.
As he watched her walk away, he felt slightly more content. 'Maybe I had to do it. Or I'm coping with being a dumbass.'
Caspien walked up to him. "I didn't want to interfere, but we leave in a few hours. Someone else will be here to pick you're friend up in a few days. Is there anything else you would like to do in that time?"
Jairo turned and his face relaxed as he thought about it. "Yes. Yes I do."
