The Saturday morning air was crisp,
carrying the distant hum of city life. Aduni and Tade walked side by side through the quiet streets, the occasional car passing by, the smell of grilled street food mingling with wet pavement from a recent rain. It was calm almost ordinary but for them, it felt charged with anticipation.
Aduni adjusted the strap of her bag, glancing at Tade. "So… you're serious, huh? About the future, the partnership, all that grown-up talk?" she teased, though her voice was softer than usual.
Tade smiled, a slow, warm smile that made her chest tighten slightly. "Completely. I've watched you handle chaos, drama, and family disasters for weeks… months. And honestly, Aduni, I don't just want to be around you I want to build with you. Slowly, carefully, without rushing. Real life isn't a storybook, but I think we could write something meaningful together."
Aduni's eyes narrowed slightly, half challenging, half amused. "Meaningful, huh? So I guess that means I get to pick the rules, and you… follow them?"
He chuckled, shaking his head. "Not follow… respect. That's the difference. I'm not here to control you, Aduni. I'm here to support you. To show you finally that partnership doesn't have to mean compromise of your dignity, your life, or your choices."
Her lips curved in a faint smile. "You make it sound easy."
He glanced at her, serious now, his gaze steady. "It won't always be easy. I know you've been burned, surrounded by lies and chaos. But I've waited because I wanted to see the real you beyond the sarcasm, beyond the fights, beyond all the… drama."
Aduni exhaled, a mixture of relief and disbelief. "You really think I'm worth it?" she asked quietly, almost unsure if she wanted the answer.
Tade's fingers brushed hers briefly as they walked across the street. "I don't just think it I know it. And I'm willing to take the time to prove it. Not in words, Aduni, but in actions. You've seen the chaos, the family… the world. I want to be the calm. I want to be someone who actually adds to your life instead of taking from it."
Aduni's heart skipped a beat. She had spent so long defending herself, defending her family, defending her independence that she had forgotten what it felt like to let someone in not to shield herself constantly.
"You're… serious, huh?" she repeated, a little breathless.
"Completely," Tade said softly, a quiet fire in his voice. "I've waited for the right time. And now… I see you, fully, without the distractions of your past or family. I see you, Aduni. And I want more than friendship. I want partnership. I want… love, in a real, grown-up way."
Aduni laughed quietly, shaking her head in disbelief. "You've got guts, I'll give you that. Waiting, watching, patiently… you're not like anyone else I know."
Tade grinned, brushing a stray lock of hair from her face. "Maybe not. But I do know that I want you in my life, properly. No half-measures, no games. Just us figuring this out, together."
She looked at him, really looked, and for the first time in weeks, she allowed herself to relax completely no sarcasm, no defenses, just curiosity, and maybe… hope.
"Alright, Tade," she said finally, a sly smile forming. "Let's see if you can really live up to that promise. Because I'm not making it easy for you."
He laughed, a warm, deep sound that blended with the evening air. "Good. I wouldn't have it any other way."
They walked on in silence after that, shoulders brushing, hands almost touching, comfortable in a way neither had expected. Around them, the city carried on oblivious, but for Aduni and Tade, the first steps of something serious had finally begun tentative, careful, but with real potential.
