Everyone in the hall stopped what they were doing in that moment. There was a wave of deep silence. They all seemed to be stunned by the abrupt decision of Jaai to step into the situation.
Even Marcus knew too well not to put himself in that situation. It has always been a thing of reverence for the young ones to step aside when adults are having a fallout.
The young ones can only step in when the matter was already out of proportion, and if there was no elderly person to put the situation in check.
But not only had Jaai stepped forward to stop Wirtz from slapping Elaine, he had also warned Wirtz sternly to use his brain, staring down at the man.
Wirtz was so flabbergasted that the rage which had affected his brain cells suddenly disappeared. At this point, what he was feeling was no longer rage. It was a great deal of humiliation mixed with confusion.
There were mutters flying around in this moment. No words could be pointed out specifically as the chatters were soft and subtle.
"What told you to do that, you fool!" Marcus walked to Jaai, gazing at him with the eyes of pity.
Even in this moment, Jaai didn't care. His face was still tough and solemn. It seemed like he was prepared for whatever was coming his way in that moment.
Wirtz turned around and walked away. He stopped in his tracks and walked back to Jaai. He pointed his finger in the face of Jaai.
Wirtz's actions could not be predicted. In fact, it seemed like him he couldn't control what he was feeling in that moment either.
After pointing into the face of Jaai for another few seconds, he turned back in the direction he had gone earlier. He stomped out of the hall.
"What just happened?" Someone asked.
"I'm not sure but it doesn't look good."
"If there's anything that I know for sure, it's the fact that Jaai is done for good. Look at what Wirtz did to his only son. His heir for that matter. Now imagine what he would do to the fool he hates the most."
Jaai and Elaine's family could hear what those elderly folks were saying. Although not many people pay attention to the gossips of the fifth and seventh aunts. Yet, this one was a very serious situation.
"Come with me!" Elaine suddenly grabbed the arm of Jaai and started to drag him away.
Jaai couldn't even make his own decision. It wasn't like he had so many choices in that moment. All he knew was that he had to follow her.
"This retard!" Marcus cursed and followed from behind.
"Stay!!" Elaine snapped at Marcus and he stopped in his track.
Marcus was really pissed that his mother would yell at him like this in the open. She hadn't only ridiculed him in front of his brother earlier, but now embarrassed him in front of his rivals?
Marcus gritted his teeth, then kicked a chair in his way. He walked away in the opposite direction.
Jaai succumbed to the strength of Elaine as she dragged him out of the hall towards the open garage.
She finally came to a stop and looked around to be certain that there was no one else with them.
"How did you leave the hospital?" She hit the nail on its head.
"Huh?" Jaai was lost for a moment.
When Elaine had grabbed his arm and dragged him out, Jaai had thought that she wanted to scold him about how he had reacted to Wirtz. He had absolutely forgotten that he was supposed to be lying in coma right now.
"Huh.." He started to rack his brain. He needed to sort himself out. He couldn't make himself look stupid else he would be treated as such.
Not that he was treated right in the first place, but he couldn't subject himself to the way people look at him.
"I think the doctor might be a quack. I was just lying there in the hospital bed. There was no changes or symptoms. Then I decided to leave." Jaai decided to say it the way it would be less suspicious.
When he thought about his situation again, he realised that nobody would believe him! The truth was that, he had no idea how he was back on his feet. Aside the fact that a system had popped up in his face and had given him a task, he didn't know anything else.
Also, there was no way he could tell Elaine or anyone else that he was once dead but was brought back to life by the system! They would think that he was mad!
He was already called stupid. He didn't want to be called mad on top of that.
"Did the doctor check you out?" Elaine was trying not to lose her mind here.
She was not even worried about Wirtz at all. She was worried about what the hell was happening to Jaai. According to what the doctor said, Jaai should be suffering from memory loss!
If he was truly suffering from memory loss, then how the hell did he find his way here? How in the whole wide world is he on his feet when he should be in coma?!!!
"Not really. I just left." Jaai replied casually.
Elaine suddenly moved closer to him. She was looking directly into his eyes. Jaai was nervous about the way she was looking at him. If he wasn't in his right mind, he would think that she was about to kiss him.
Grip! She grabbed his face and pulled it closer to hers. Jaai tried to push himself back. He hated to think that his intrusive thought might be right.
"Look into my eyes." Elaine demanded.
"Huh? I'm--mm-- looking..." Jaai swallowed a lump.
"Do you recognise me? Who am I?" Elaine finally asked the big question.
Suddenly, it occurred to Jaai why Elaine was acting like this. Jaai recalled how the doctor claimed that he must have lost his memory. Elaine must still be in shock.
Jaai recalled the decision he made when he left the hospital. Since the family of Elaine believed that he had lost his memory in order to hide the cheating scandal, Jaai had decided that he would play along with them.
He had totally forgotten that he promised himself this. Right now, he needed to get back in character. He needed to act like someone who cannot remember anything.
He needed to act like someone who has lost his memory!
But so far, he has made some mistakes which he needed to make right in that moment.
Suddenly his eyes shone and he knocked off the hand of Elaine that was holding his face.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?" Jaai snapped, taking a step back. "Are you a pervert or what? Were you trying to kiss me?"
Elaine was shocked by his accusations. Point in time, Marcus and his siblings have rushed to the scene.
Marcus didn't take a cool. He charged at Jaai and grabbed him in a chokehold.
"Have you lost your mind? Do you want to hit mother? How dare you accuse her? Did you hit your head?" Marcus's fist was drawn and aimed at Jaai's face.
"Mother?" Jaai muttered innocently. "Is she my mother?"
When Marcus heard this, he was entirely pissed to the very bones.
"This little piece of old condom!" Marcus wanted to plant a punch in his face.
"Stop!!!" Elaine screamed at Marcus. Marcus froze.
Elaine walked forward and pushed Marcus out of the way. She held Jaai's arm, looking curiously into his eyes.
"You don't know who I am?" Elaine asked, her eyes bulging.
Jaai shook his head in denial.
"Then how did you come to this place? Why did you bring a gift? Why did you stop Wirtz from hitting me?" Elaine was dying to understand what was happening.
She didn't want to believe that she was going crazy.
"How did I come to this place?" Jaai muttered, his innocence plummeting.
"Don't mutter like an imbecile!" Marcus snapped.
"When I woke up in the hospital, the only place I could think of was here. I don't know why. My head was blank, but I remembered this place. And while coming, I felt the hunch to bring something. A sort of gift. It was strange." Jaai didn't think that lie made a lot of sense.
"Then why stop Uncle Wirtz from hitting mother when you could have stopped him from hitting Baron, too?" Marcus was not buying this.
"It's common sense." Jaai replied.
"Huh?" Marcus was stupefied.
"Who would stand there and watch a man beat up a woman? Do you have to know the woman personally before saving her?" Jaai snapped at Baron.
"This..." Baron was speechless.
"Why do you constantly attack me? Was I that bad in my past life?" Jaai attacked Marcus.
Marcus and his family members stood their groundless.
"Cos right now I can't remember who I am." Jaai added pitifully.
