During dinner, Arya noticed Sinclair giving her side glances, then looking at the head of the house, Mr Alfa Flowerew. She didn't understand what was going on, but felt uncomfortable.
It was nearly a month since their stay. They hadn't found anything of use out in the mountains, so now they were planning to go into the forests that surrounded the village.
She could then feel eyes piercing holes into her. She looked around until her eyes landed on the big bad alfa himself.
She stared for a few seconds, then looked away. Why was he staring at her?
One thing Arya had to admit was that he was too handsome to exist... his eyes, his intense look... oh this man could melt anyone's heart within... heart! Oh God Arya's heart was betraying her, as it beat more like drums in her chest, playing rock music.
She shifted in her seat. Dinner had just been served, so she couldn't excuse herself.
Then she noticed something; any person who came to either serve them or refill their plates, stared at her for longer then necessary.
Did they know something? Arya's breath caught in her throat. If he has found something, why hasn't he done anything? Or maybe he's just suspecting it? But why?
"Are you alright?" Alfa Flowerew asked all of a sudden, making Arya half choke on her water.
She looked at him, and saw the intense look he was giving her... he had looks to die for...
"Yes," Arya managed to croak.
"But you don't look OK!" Maryann's voice came, and Arya looked around the table one more time. Everyone had concern on their faces.
"I'm fine... just work pressure," Arya said.
"But you look pale... like a vampire," Alex commented.
Sinclair flinched at the comment, his eyes turning a darker shade of it normal grey. No, he flinched at the word vampire! Did they also exist?
If so, Arya would have to research on ancient vampire bat's as her next project, after the Sabre toothed cat project, that is.
Why was Alfa Flowerew smiling? His eyes were glowing and he seemed... too happy. Oh no, what now?
Why didn't Alfa Flowerew think about this before! Vampires. Unlike wolves, vampires can smell the blood types of people and animals. If he could convince his friend... well not exactly friend, but he wasn't enemy either, to come here, he might be able to smell the blood of Miss Hunter and confirm his suspicion.
If Arya Hunter was indeed human, he would know, but if she has a werewolf bloodline, the vampire would be able to smell it. He might even be able to tell Alfa why he cannot catch her scent.
Oh that toothpick guy... as Sinclair had named him, is a genius. If she indeed turned out to be his mate, this skinny guy would be rewarded greatly, even set free. They wouldn't want to hunt bones anyway.
Sinclair snorted, almost spraying the water he had in his mouth. His Alfa had mindlinked him.
Every eyes went on him.
"Something wrong, Ronald?" Alfa asked, his face showing no emotions.
"Sorry Alfa, I just remembered something," Sinclair replied, trying to hold in his laughter.
"Miss Hunter, the forests are dangerous, so I'm sending more men with you, and they will take some weapons as well, as protection," Flowerew said, " You have any weapons on you?"
"Yes, we did bring some tazers," she said.
"Good, my men will let you borrow some hunting knives, of you want."
Arya looked at her team members. They all shrugged, then Darian said, "I guess we could take them. It would be great."
"Do you even know how to use a knife? Let alone a hunting knife..." Amelia chuckled.
"At least I can cook, unlike someone here!" Darian snapped back.
"Yeah, when all the cutting is done by that 'someone'."
"Stop it you two. We're guests invited for dinner. Don't forget that!" Arya snapped.
The two became silent. That caught Alfa Flowerew's attention. This girl had an authoritative voice that people actually listened to. She can command. Just like a Luna should.
Oh that beautiful face, that big eyes, he already knew she was wearing lens, so he imagined blue eyes.
That small nose, sharp jaws brown hair, that neck... his eyes landed on the spot he would mark her, was she wearing a chain? Why hadn't he noticed it before?
'Sinclair, find out what chain she's wearing. Observe her tonight, while she's sleeping' he mindlinked his beta.
"Sure thing Alfa'.
"I'm off to bed," Maryann yawned. "Tomorrow is a big day."
"I'm also going to sleep," Amelia said, following Maryann.
"Can we get some beer around here? We've drank all that we bought!" Alex asked.
"Hey man, maybe get some rest. Besides, this is a damn village!" Darian said, yawning.
Sinclair had just dropped them off and left. He planned to come back later and see if he could sneak into the house to do what his Alfa had assigned him.
"We all have to sleep, and wake up early in the morning," Arya said, going towards her room. "Oh, and don't forget, we have to take more water and zip lock bags."
Alex groaned, but went to sleep on the couch. The girl's slept in with Arya, but on the floor, as the bed was already too small for Arya, let alone two more, and Darian slept in Arya's grandpa's room. Alex just slept wherever he saw space. He could fit into a box and sleep like a baby.
Sinclair waited behind the house in a small bush, waiting for the humans to fall into a deep sleep. He knew where each of them was sleeping due to their smell, and he waited for steady heartbeat and breathing.
He moved closer to the house slowly and as silently as he could, broke off the already rotting wood near the window of Arya's room.
He stopped to make sure everyone was still asleep, and after making sure that they were, turned into his brown wolf and went in.
He made his way slowly and carefully to Arya's bed, where he could see her chain clearly. His eyesight was better in his wolf form, as he could see in the dark, so he stayed hidden in the shadows and watched her sleep.
He could see the chain, but the pendant was still hidden. Just a little more movement on her side, and the pendant would fall right out.
"Aaaaahhhh." A scream echoed through the house.
