Chapter 19 - Chapter 19

They both ran in different ways but the men only had two targets; Eva and John. Eva didn't know the easy around this apart of town, neither was she the sporty type either.

She turned left, right, right, left and down the lane as fast as she could until she got to a dead end. She set the boy down as she tried to catch her breath. Her heart threatened to explode. The cold air and the eerie glow of the moon smoky made matters worse. She breathed heavily, trying to keep herself from fainting. She managed to calm down a bit before turning to the young boy beside her. He was quiet and his eyes were streaming years uncontrollably and fear wouldn't let him utter a single sound. She felt pity and reached out to wipe his face, when a deep voice boomed in the quiet alley. "End of the road, kids."

"You should have obeyed willingly. You've only made things difficult for you and that boy" one of the man said smiling villainously.

Eva crouched down and hugged the boy, ready to face her fate.

"Don't you know it is wrong to beat up a girl, not to talk of a child?". The men all look at this unwanted stranger, as well as Eva, to a see the figure of a young man walking towards the scene. She stopped in between them with his hands on his pockets, His face was concealed in the dark and the only thing Eva could see clearly, regarding his appearance was his long dark hair, that rhyme so will with the darkness under the moon light.

"Who are you? Her boyfriend? I advise you step aside before you get beaten with her" the man said stepping in front of the rest confidently, a snicker, plastered to his face.

"Consider this a warning, leave" the man said in a very serious tone. His eyes glinted in the subtle, moonlit environment. They were deadly.

The men stared at each other and laughed. One of the men lunged forward to hit him with a pole and just like that he froze before the pole could touch the strange man like some kind of statue.

He man struggled to move but he couldn't, for a while he just stood there will the others staring as well as not believing their eyes. Everyone there watched in awe mixed with confusion.

Eva who was still hugging the child, stood up and walked towards the person that just saved her from who knows what those men are. She walked over to him but before she could say anything, the man who was once frozen in place was now attacking his own comrades, beating them all till they were unconscious. Eva watched carefully and noticed the way he stared at each one of them, he looked like he was controlling the goon who was beating his comrades.

Was he using his mind to control him? Does he have something to do with me? Could he help me make sense of what is happening to me? Questions raced through her head and Eva didn't realize when she let go of her dear and was now watching the man with fascination and interest. She turned to the man who seemed to be spellbound, apologizing after each hit. He looked like he wanted to cry and Eva almost felt bad for him. The moment he had beat all his comrades down, he fell face flat to the ground, out cold.

Finally the man turned to face Eva, she was stunned, this guy didn't look human, his hair was a deep black, like darkness glowing under the moonlight, he had captivating ocean blue eyes; ones that could drown you in if your weren't careful. His jawline and everything else screamed perfection.

God truly took his time when he was sculpting this demi god, Eva stood there dumbstruck by the beauty that stood before her.

He man smirked at her "You're drooling." he said bending his head towards her

Eva snapped back, covering her face and turning away "N-no, I am not." she said touching her lips to clarify her statement

"Sure, you are not." he man said before walking the opposite direction.

"where are you going?" Eva called out

"Aren't you going to find the boy's mother? Or do you plan on leaving him there?"

Eva then stared at the boy, who was now staring at her "what is your name?" she yelled as she turned back to the mystery man but he did not reply. She took the boy's hand and walked towards the corner he took but, to her surprise, he was gone.

She looked around for a while before heading to meet the boy's mother, the boy lead the way, he knew were his mother might have gone.

When they got there, she was pacing around with her phone in her hand. The moment she saw them, she rushed, bending down to hug her son.

They embraced each other, scared that they had lost each other. "T-thank you so much miss, I can not thank you enough for saving my boy from those men."

"It's really no problem at all. I'm… if you don't mind me asking, why were they chasing you?" Eva asked curiously

The woman sighed "They're loan sharks. I borrowed some money from them, promising to payback prior to when I got a job. I got the job and I paid them back but as the thugs they were, they insisted that I continue paying "tribute" as they called it. When I refused, they targeted my child, going to get a ransom off him."

"Well I would say, you should use that money to get yourself in a better neighborhood to keep you and your son safe"

"I don't know anywhere and I need someone to watch over him, I can't leave him alone"

"I know a few vacant apartments around the area and I could take care of him, while you check those places out" Eva suggested

The woman look at her with wide eyes, "you would do that for me? why?"

"well I don't really have anything else to do, I wouldn't like to see this boy in such a situation and I admire your determination to provide for you and your son. We could go on Saturday if you don't mind?"

The woman stared at her with gratitude and couldn't stop thanking her

She left, about to head home, she felt a sense of happiness in helping them, she told herself she would come and check up on them everyday till Saturday

"do you think that is a good idea?" a voice scared her from behind, it was the same man that saved her before

"Do you think it is a good Idea to put yourself in trouble everyday for people you don't know. You could barely take of yourself there and you want to be doing it everyday?" he scolded her.

Eva just stared at him "are you done?" she asked with a defiant look in her eye before turning around and ignoring him.

The man just stood there emotionless, Eva then stopped and turned "what is your name?" she questioned

"Zeiran" he replied

"Well Zeiran, I am not scared because I know you will be there if anything happens"

Zeiran just looked at her and chuckled, he disappeared. Eva looked at where he was just standing a few minutes ago, now he is gone. "not human I see" she said to herself

She turned around and he was standing, in front of her a little bit to close, "what makes you so sure, princess?" He moved. She was sure she didn't blink but somehow, Her back was to a wall and his right hand was on her neck and the other in his pocket. His grip slowly tightened, His eyes possessing a murderous glow.

"I could kill you right now."
