Inside the Cerulean City Gym, Alex Carter stood on the platform, facing Misty's three sisters, each on her own side.
This Gym, known for its focus on Water-type Pokémon, featured a battleground set on a pool of water, with several floating platforms for non-Water-type Pokémon.

"Alright, let's do this."
"You're up, Shiny Grimer!"
Alex released his Shiny Grimer. The colorful Grimer's appearance elicited shrieks from the sisters.
"Little brother, how could you use Grimer here? It's too dirty! It'll mess up the pool, and we'll have to clean it," Ayame pouted.
Hearing this absurd complaint, Alex sighed.
Originally hoping to win their favor, Alex found their reaction too much to handle.
First, they kept calling him "little brother," and now they were dismissing his Shiny Grimer.
Could his Shiny Grimer be compared to other Grimers? It had a faint fragrance and its vibrant colors clearly marked it as extraordinary.
"Grimer, use Sludge Attack to make the pool water murky."
Ignoring their protests, Alex commanded Shiny Grimer. After all, this was a Gym challenge.
Following Alex's command, Grimer unleashed Sludge Attack.
The pool turned murky.
Goldeen, happily swimming moments ago, was now disoriented, its vision blurred, placing it at a disadvantage.
"Goldeen, jump out and use Megahorn," Ayame commanded, realizing Alex's strategy.
But this was precisely Alex's plan.
He had Grimer use Sludge Bomb, and the airborne Goldeen was instantly defeated, covered in sludge and sinking.
"Wah, I'm not fighting anymore, I surrender," Ayame cried, hesitating to continue after witnessing Alex's powerful attack.
Finally, Ayame, the blue-haired sister, stepped forward with a Poké Ball.
"Come out, Seel."

Water-type Pokémon: Most Seel live in deep oceans, but some inhabit cave waters, drawn to dark, calm areas. It communicates with the stars by flashing its red core. It can recover even if its body is cut into pieces.

...Seeing the newly released Seel piqued Alex's interest, but its combat power was no match for his Shiny Grimer.
He expected Ayame to also be overpowered.
As predicted, not long after Seel was released, it was thoroughly defeated by Grimer, losing its combat ability and sinking into the pool.
The Cerulean City Gym battle was a three-on-three match.
With two victories, one more would secure the blue badge.
"Ayame, be careful. This little brother is strong. Sakura and I can't beat him. It's up to you now," Ayame warned.
Ayame, taking the final match, stepped forward.
She released a Seel with around 200 combat power.
This Seel was weaker than the previous Staryu.
Alex felt reluctant to crush them again. But as he prepared to attack, an explosion above the Gym interrupted him, followed by a descending hot air balloon.
On it was an 'R' insignia.
Seeing this scene, Alex felt a sense of familiarity.
"I hear someone asking sincerely."
"Then we'll tell you with great mercy!"
"To prevent the world from being destroyed."
"To protect the peace of the world!"
"To embody love and truth, the evil."
"The lovely and charming Villain!"
"Jessie."
"James."
"We are Team Rocket, soaring through the galaxy! White Hole, a white tomorrow awaits us!"
...Hearing this familiar slogan, Alex's mouth twitched.
He hadn't expected to encounter Team Rocket now.
He was in the middle of a Gym challenge!
Just one more match, and he could secure the blue badge... "James, see? I told you, this kid has valuable stuff. We even found a strong Shiny Grimer. Catching it for headquarters could earn us a promotion," Jessie said excitedly.
"Our luck is great; even in Cerulean City, we found such a chance!"
...Hearing their conversation, Alex grew even more displeased. As the young master of Team Rocket, how dare these fools target him?
"You probably don't know who I am. Interrupting now makes me really angry!"
"Grimer, use Sludge Bomb on their hot air balloon."
Alex suppressed his emotions, refusing to let them erupt.
After all, these two were under his father's organization, working for Team Rocket.
Bang, bang, bang.
Team Rocket had barely made a grand entrance.
Before attacking, they were struck by Shiny Grimer's attack. The Sludge Bomb hit the hot air balloon, causing it to explode.
Then... it flew off into the distance, becoming a small star.
"We'll be back."
...Hearing this familiar phrase, Alex wondered if Team Rocket members had special training, always saying the same things upon entering and leaving.
Alex's actions were closely watched by the three sisters.
