Chapter 18 - R&D - Part 1

It had been a week since Kaan started practicing the Jade Palm Technique he received from his Master. His first priority was to use his photography function: he immediately took photos of the entire technique manual so he could study it digitally. He hadn't taken a single look at the city since his arrival.

The Jade Palm Technique consisted of four levels. The first level, which Kaan was currently practicing, focused on the durability of the hands. He had to punch sand to make his hands iron-like. He also received the Circulation Manual from his Master, which showed the precise paths to circulate Qi in order to open the rest of the meridians. "Of course, my Master is a busy man," Kaan thought. "He couldn't guide me through every meridian." He quickly snapped pictures of this crucial manual as well.

"Ugh, Ugh, Ugh, Ugh...." He punched the sand thousands of times, the monotonous physical pain fueling his focus.

After his physical training, he turned to internal cultivation. "In my observations, Qi flows naturally inside the body. However, if you support it, the current becomes more stable, kind of like coating the copper wire in order to make it more efficient." He circulated his Qi thousands of times, coating and reinforcing the internal path. After just a week, the current of his Qi became nearly undisturbable—a stable, low-resistance circuit. He then stopped reinforcing the flow and started focusing on the Liver Meridian.

"It is not a long way from the Heart to the Liver, so I think I can beam it through in one try," Kaan thought while gathering the Qi inside his heart. He shot it, and it directly hit his liver. He felt the impact, but his liver absorbed the Qi without opening.

"???" Kaan was surprised. He quickly checked the manual and understood. "So, the liver acts like a second Dantian; it needs a jumpstart to open up, hah."

Afterwards, he shot countless beams of Qi toward his Liver Meridian. After an all-nighter of intense focus, "Huff, huff, huff. Goddamn, that was too much Qi. I absorbed three Qi replenishing pills," he gasped. He successfully opened his Liver Meridian.

One of the beneficial things about being a direct student of an Elder is the access to resources. Kaan received his monthly allowance: 25 Spirit Stones, 4 Qi replenishing pills (which he analyzed immediately), and a Qi surge pill. He was keeping all these resources safe in his plundered Spatial Ring.

As soon as he opened his Liver Meridian, his Master showed up. "I greet my Master."

"Relax, kid. Stabilize your Liver Meridian. We will talk later," Master Chu said. Kaan started circulating and shooting beams to his liver. Now, his liver functioned as a Qi Accumulator, which cleansed the Qi he breathed and flowed it right into the currents of his existing Qi. As he stabilized, his Master said, "Congratulations, Kaan. Now you are at the peak of Level 1 Circulation Stage. I have to admit, I've never seen someone climb to the peak of the level so fast. Is there anything you want?"

Kaan's eyes sparkled like a child. "Yes, Master, I want to learn more about formations. I saw some around the building but didn't understand it, but it's very interesting," said Kaan with excitement.

"Formations? Why didn't he ask for techniques or spirit stones or something?" Master Chu thought, but he decided to give him what he wanted. "Very well. Hey, you, at the ceiling, go get this guy the books about formations," said Master Chu.

Kaan looked at the ceiling with confusion. As he looked, a guy appeared out of thin air, with a knife in his hand, moving at light-speed, and attacked Kaan. "Holy shit!" Kaan thought.

"Don't you dare!" the Elder said calmly, raised his hand, and made a gesture that crushed the guy into the floor. "Ugghh, I can't move."

The Elder calmly approached the man and said, "You better tell me who sent you, or be prepared to live through the immense pain of your consciousness shattering and healing." He wore a sadistic smile.

Kaan got shivers. "I know that look," he thought.

"Nobody dies while i have questions to ask." Elder said as he made another gesture that a pill flew out of the attackers mouth. "Wow, another cliche, an assassin trying to kill himself." Kaan thought.

"I will take this guy to interogate him, you practice your stabilization, you need my assistance in order to breakthrough to level 2. Also i will send the books and ingredients for formations. See you, kid."

"Yes Master. Thank you." said Kaan with excitement. "Now all i have to do is learn a qi accumulation formation and stay here until i get stronger then go back to Earth."

Kaan spend other half of the day stabilizing his qi. On one point, a guy came and dropped of a mountain of books, a quill and an ink. Kaan quickly took a bath and started photographing the books.

It took approximately 7 hours to photograph and categorizing the books, after he knocked out because of exhaustion.

Meanwhile, in the interrogation room.

"If you want to die a peaciful death, tell me who sent you and i will sent you out without pain." Said Elder Chu.

"Elder, please have mercy, i didn't know he was your student."

"Tell me who sent you." said Elder, visibly getting annoyed.

"It was Branch Manager Zhuo, he kidnapped my family and threatened me. Please Elder, I beg you, i have a kid."

Elder took out some kind of bug from his spatial ring and force-fed to the guy

"I can't believe you just yet, i fed you a Gu insect, they have to live as a couple, if one of them dies, other one goes berserk and they eat your brain alive if they are inside of a human body." said Great Elder Chu with the other insect in his hand, slightly squished.

"AAAAAAAAAAH!" The guy screamed on top of his lungs. "Oh sorry, i forgot to mention that if one of them feels pain, other one also feels pain. What you will do know is go report back to Zhuo and say that I nearly got caught and failed to kill Kaan. You will report to me every three days what Zhuo is doing. Got it?" said Elder Chu

"Yes, yes i got it, thank you for your mercy Great Elder Chu." said the guy as he took his belongings and dissapeared.

"No one messes with my family or my student."
