Chapter 4 - Stuck with me

ISOBEL

"What are you doing here?" Mason asked so casually like he was asking about the time, meanwhile the man had just murdered Nathan right before my eyes.

"Y-you," I stuttered, and then swallowed to push down the lump that had formed in my throat, "What are you doing to me?"

It felt incredibly difficult because not only did I sleep with my brother but he was also my mate. This had to be some sort of sick joke. Ophelia was definitely behind this.

"That should be my question, Isobel," Mason replied calmly.

"D-did you know?" I couldn't bring myself to ask the question. The man who had given me the best sex of my life, the only man whom I desperately craved for his touch was my enemy's godchild and now my mate? I chuckled with humor. I was probably the moon goddess's least favorite wolf.

I could feel my head spinning, and I had to reach for a tree stump to steady myself. I knew I wasn't lucky but I never believed that I'd ever be in a situation like this.

"Know what? That you're Ophelia's stepdaughter?" Mason smirked. For some reason, I could tell he was enjoying this.

And no, it wasn't because he was happy to have slept with his godmother's stepdaughter, I felt like he was doing this to punish me, to mess with my head.

"Did you do this on purpose?" I accused, rage clouding my vision, "You knew that I was your sister yet you had sex with me. How could you?"

Mason's face contorted in anger and he stormed towards me. He held me by my shoulder and grimaced, "If I knew you were Simon's daughter, I'd have squeezed the life out of you immediately I set my eyes on you".

His words made me realize that his coming here was because he had some kind of beef with father and unfortunately, I had stupidly inserted myself in the middle of it.

"But you didn't," I whispered.

"You were the one who threw yourself at me, Isobel." He stated the obvious fact that I tried so hard to deny, and then he let go of me.

"No. No." I huffed shakily, with my hands over my ears as if that'd change anything.

But Mason didn't seem to care, "And now Isobel," he continued, "…my sweet Isobel happens to be my mate. How wonderful!"

"It can't be!" I rebuked, suddenly getting the energy to fight back. "You can't be my mate! You just killed my mate!"

"Well, the moon goddess has jokes," He chuckled darkly and for some reason, it vibrated between my legs. What was wrong with me? How on earth was I still attracted to him even after finding out that he's Ophelia's godson? The mate bond was a sick thing!

And as much as I always desired to be with my mate, to revel in his warmth, I just couldn't let this happen. It's forbidden.

I took in a deep breath to steady myself, "Mason," I began, secretly hoping that my voice doesn't give away my disorientation. "…Whatever happened between us was a mistake. It was probably due to the effect of the alcohol."

I paused to study him but his expression gave nothing away so I continued, "Thankfully, we're both adults and what happened last night doesn't mean anything. It was just a thing of the moment."

"But was it?" Mason smirked teasingly. I didn't know why he was enjoying this when it was supposed to freak him out. Did he really fancy the idea of being with his godmother's stepdaughter or was he some kind of psychopath?

I didn't notice how close he was until he lifted my chin with his index finger. Then he leaned in, as we both inhaled each others exhale, "Do you really not want to have a taste of me? Did last night not blow your mind?"

"I-," I could barely form words because for some reason, my throat was in competition with a dessert.

"Don't lie to me, Isobel," He coerced and I couldn't help myself from leaning in to have a whiff of his mouthwatering scent.

I closed my eyes, inhaling deeply and only coming back to my senses when I heard Mason's mocking laughter. Asshole!

"This can't happen!" I took several steps back for the sake of my sanity, "Nobody must know of this,"

"And why so?" He questioned in a lackadaisical manner.

"Because…," I swallowed, bracing myself for what I was about to say, "Because I, Isobel Maya Smith, rejects you, Mason Gray as my mate!"

I closed my eyes, waiting for the impact of his acceptance but after a few seconds of waiting, I opened my eyes to see Mason staring right back at me.

"Quite the balls you've got there," He commented

"Huh?"

"It's funny that you think I'd accept your rejection,"

"Mason, you can't do this!" I cautioned, despite the tiny but evident feeling of joy inside my heart that he didn't accept the rejection.

"I can do whatever I want, Isobel," He said, "And.." he drawled, "I, Mason Gray, reject your rejection!"

"No, you can't do this. Please just accept the rejection!" I pleaded desperately. For the first time in my life, I truly craved for rejection but Mason didn't want to give it to me. The moon goddess was truly a joke star.

I should be happy that Mason didn't want to accept my rejection but I knew better. The look on his face told me that he wanted nothing to do with me but he also wanted me around. I just didn't understand it.

"You're stuck with me. There's no escaping it," he smiled devilishly.

I knew he truly meant every word and instantly, the thought of running away crossed my mind but it was as though Mason could read my mind, "And don't you dare think of running away because I'll find you and when I do, I'll make you regret it,"
