Chapter 8 - I'm not a murderer

ISOBEL

'I'm not a murderer' I whispered to myself repeatedly, hoping that the moon goddess would touch their heart and let me go. I knew I wasn't the moon goddess's favorite wolf but I could only hope that this time, she'd be merciful towards me.

All my hope came crashing down the second I spotted Mason, I instantly knew this would go all road but well. The goddess obviously despised me and wanted nothing but to torture me. Why was he even here?

"She must be executed!" Adolphus screamed, his humongous belly vibrating, and I feared he'd burst open with how loud he was.

"Quiet Adolphus, we don't want you bursting into several pieces now do we?" Came Mason's mockery and if I wasn't in a compromising position, I'd have burst out laughing.

Regardless of my situation though, I couldn't help but enjoy the defeated expression on his face. Adolphus was open about his hatred for me. Ever since I rejected his advance, he vowed to make my life a living hell. I wouldn't be surprised if he was behind this.

But Adolphus finally being humbled was no longer of interest to me when I heard Mason's next words, "I, Mason Gray, the supreme Alpha will decide how she should be punished."

Oh, for goodness sake!

What did this man want from me? Why wouldn't he just let me breathe? Why was I unfortunate enough to get entangled with him? Why couldn't he just let it go?

Ophelia's face radiated in joy as she knew how ruthless her son could be, so she expected the worst kind of punishment for me. My suffering was by far the best form of entertainment for the mother and son duo.

"Go ahead, son. Tell us what punishment you've come up with that'd make this little brat beg for death," Ophelia urged and I swore I saw a glint of anger flash through Mason's eyes before it was abruptly replaced by a devious smile. Oh goodness!

Mason cleared his throat loudly and I knew he wasn't doing it to draw the attention of the people because he already had it, he did it to spite me. That's pathetic coming from a Supreme Alpha.

"I refuse to believe that Isobel here is responsible for the death of those students," He said, much to my surprise and I couldn't help but gaze at him in shock. What did he have in mind?

"All evidence suggests that she's guilty." Ophelia chimed in, clearly displeased with her son, "A gallon of petrol and matchsticks was found in her room."

"What?" I said in shock, "I don't know how they got there."

"So they developed wings and flew to your room, is that what you're saying?" Ophelia jested and I knew better than to give her a response because she wouldn't believe me.

Someone framed me! The petrol and the matchsticks was not in my room on the day I tried to escape. Whoever was behind this waited for me to leave before planting the evidence.

"Can you see how unremorseful she is?" Ophelia turned to Mason, "She's trying to deny."

For some reason, Mason's eyes were focused on me like he believed me. Like he knew that I couldn't hurt a fly much more than kill two students. It made me feel giddy.

"She shall not be executed!" Mason declared.

"What?!" Ophelia and a couple of elders spat bitterly while the crowd began murmuring.

"You heard me," He continued, clearly unfazed, and for a second there, I admired him. Maybe he truly wasn't a bad person. I had probably misunderstood him.

But Mason being Mason, sharing the same blood with Ophelia, burst my bubbles with his next words, "She'll be my personal maid while I investigate the situation. If by the end, she's found guilty, she'd be executed and if not, she'll return to her normal life."

"No!" Ophelia yelled, "What has gotten into you, Mason? She's a murderer for crying out loud!"

"Watch how you speak to me, Mother. Do not forget that I am the Supreme Alpha!" Mason said in his authoritative tone, making his mother cower in fear. Then he turned to the sentries, "bring her to my chambers." and with that, she strolled off.

What the hell was wrong with this man? Was he bipolar or something? What did he mean by his personal maid? He has numerous ladies, with various rankings at his beck and call so why choose me? No other reason than to frustrate my life!

Just as Mason had instructed, two guards held me by my arm and pulled me away.

"Don't think you've gotten away with this!" Ophelia spat out, "You may have somehow managed to get into my son's head but I promise you, it won't be for long. You must pay for your evil deeds."

I didn't know what gave me the sudden energy to reply but I could barely control myself, "Let the supreme Alpha decide!" I said and she immediately blanched, clearly not expecting me to retort.

The guards pulled me away and into the mansion until we reached Mason's chambers. "Consider yourself lucky, Alpha Mason is usually not this lenient and merciful," The guard who told me to watch how I spoke back in the prison, said.

I do took in a deep breath, knowing that whatever Mason had in mind for me was worse than death. There was something going on in his devious head and I wasn't looking forward to it.

The guard knocked on the door and the next second, he opened it, gently pushed me inside like a prey delivered to a predator and then the door was shut behind me.

My heart pounded rapidly against my chest so much that I felt dizzy. I'd have preferred death to this one of a kind torture.

I glanced around and the room was empty so I took a deep breath to calm my racing heart and just when I thought I had calmed down, Mason's voice echoed, "Already here?"
