Chapter 5 - The Hand of the King

In the village of Crystella, a 13-year-old ice angel boy was on his way back home from the hills he likes to spend time in when he felt lonely, which is most of the time. He had short black hair white ice blue eyes. He had dark skin and his wings were bigger than an angel his size should have. The other angel children didn't like him for this reason. He was different. He didn't have friends. He also despised his wings because he knew they were keeping him from having a normal life. At the time with his doctor, his mother didn't recall anything unusual that she's done or that's been done to her during her pregnancy that may have caused him to have wings bigger than normal. The doctors said his body was healthy and normal. They've done tests on his wings and they couldn't come with an explanation. He arrived home, "My dear, Vincent, come to me" it was a voice from the kitchen. his mother. He walked to the kitchen and his mother checked his wings. "Are they growing heavy on you?" she asked. "No, mother I'm fine." "Remember to come to me if they become a problem." she said as she grabbed his face gently and kissing his forehead. "now off you go, get ready for supper, your father will be here soon to join us. In the disposal room, they had an old mirror that had a few cracks on the side. He would avoid looking at himself through it because he could see the wings behind him. He had taken a blade from his father. and he knew exactly what to do with it. He was alone, rejected, bullied, always starred at like a display, and all because of his wings, and he thought, if he can get rid of his wings, his problems will go away. In the dining table his father sat while his mother served him supper, "Vincent, supper is ready, come here now." she shouted for his son to hear. A while later he didn't show up. "I'll check on him," she said standing up. He nodded while he ate. She left the dining room and saw the blade with silver blood which is the blood the ice angels have. She discovered Vincent just laying on the floor with a wing halfway cut at its stump leaving blood everywhere. She screamed and his father rushed towards them, "Vincent" he said picking him up. "We've got to go to the meds," he said and they flew out of their cottage towards the palace. Vincent opened his eyes and everything was white. His eyes adjusted and realized where he was. He was in the palace but in its healing center for angels. "Why am I alive," he thought. He sat up and looked around. There were wounded angels but not many. The room was as huge as a ballroom. the walls were white with a silver logo of Crystella on one of the walls. He saw open windows on the roof for the angels to fly out. He didn't want to be there. It made him feel trapped by whiteness and He didn't like the fact He was still alive, he wanted to end his suffering. He got up and felt pain in his right-wing. The one he tried to cut off before passing out. He couldn't fly out so he walked towards the doors instead where there were two guards on each side of the doors. "Please, just let me go through," he thought. The guards stopped him from walking any further. "I would like to go home," said Vincent firmly, trying to sound like an adult. "We can't dismiss anyone unless the meds confirm, you're ready to go," said one of the guards. "But I need to see my parents," He said knowing that isn't a strong enough excuse. "I'm sorry, but we need to keep you in here." Vincent felt anger rising in him. "I need some air, so I would like to leave now!" he shouted. "You heard the angel, give him some air, I never liked this room either." the guards and Vincent saw young Prince Anders leaning against the wall. "Your highness, we didn't see you enter," said both guards bowing down. Vincent did the same. "You," said the Prince, pointing at Vincent "get up and follow me" Vincent did as he was told and they both left the room. They walked on the palace hall where there were the doors ahead, leading outside. "It's nice seeing an angel my age around. What's your name" said the Prince. "Vincent, your highness," He said looking down. "You don't have to call me your majesty or your highness, call me Anders" Vincent looked at him and asked him what his age was. "I'm 14, how about you, Vincent?" "I'm 13". "What is up with your wings? they look like the wings of a 16-year-old" "Yeah, I know" said Vincent rudely. "I didn't mean to trigger you, I think I'm kinda jealous they're bigger than mine considering your age, so I think they're amazing." Vincent never heard anyone say that about his wings. Someone actually admired them and think they're amazing. He never thought he would meet the Prince of Crystella and he never thought he would see his wings in a positive way, unlike the locals in his village. They walked outside into a garden and, Vincent was overwhelmed. He's never seen such a beautiful garden with different types of flowers. They walked to a nearby bench and sat down. It was a great view to see the flowers. "Your garden is astonishing, Anders." he said in admiration. "We have a very good gardener, he found it an honor to work with us doing his passion." said Anders looking at him. "Why are you here Vincent?" he asked. Vincent looked down thinking about what he did to his wing. "You barely survived. Did someone try to kill you or did you do this to yourself?" Vincent looked down at the ground, "I tried to cut my wing off" he said. "Why would you want to end your life?" asked Anders looking up at him. "I've been bullied, started at, rejected, and even threatened. I can't live a normal life with wings bigger than my size. I'm too different and it's just bringing me pain and suffering. The only thing that's been keeping me together was my parents, but for a while, because I couldn't take it anymore. These wings feel like a curse someone gave me when I was born" Vincent felt sad and he started tearing up. He dropped his knees to the ground then tears started going down his face. He felt a hand on his shoulder; he looked up and saw Anders crouched down looking back at him. He turned not wanting the prince to see him in tears. "Listen to me, Vincent, your wings aren't a curse. They're a gift" Vincent looked at him curiously and in a way relieved, "your wings are amazing, just think about how much more powerful and stronger they are to the kids our age. Being different is good and you should embrace it because there will be angels out there that'll admire you for it. Just like I do. The angels that don't like you for your wings, don't, because they know you're better than them. Don't beat yourself up anymore, you have a friend now." Vincent for the first time felt a sense of happiness, and he liked how it felt. Nobody gave him the type of hope Anders did. At that moment he realized he wasn't alone anymore. Anders would always be there to hear him out, and he thought of doing the same for his new friend. Anders reached into his pocket and pulled out a handkerchief; handing it to Vincent. "Thank you," he said. Anders helped him up, "I'm just glad you're doing better. Now, you wanna see the pranks I can do on those guards?" He asked. Vincent agreed, and they ran off into the palace. Ever since that day Vincent and Anders grew to become the closest friends. They spend a lot of time together and when his wing healed they flew off high in the skies. During their teenage years, Vincent was there when Anders meet his first love and future queen, Allura. They went together in quests, and he helped the prince study what he had to, and help him prepare to become a king. "I'm going to make you my right hand in command when I become king," he said and Vincent felt honored, so he too prepared himself to become the king's right hand. The day of Anders's coronation came and Vincent was honored as the king's second in command. At the palace, Vincent stood next to Anders's open coffin. He looked the same except for the skin that had turned grey marking the death of an angel. "My dearest friend, thank you for being there for me, your queen, and the kingdom, you ruled like a truthful king and I admired you for that. we all will get justice for your death." A guard entered the room almost startling Vincent. "My lord, the prince summons you." "Is he certain she murdered our king?" asked Vincent. "I am not so sure my lord, he did search for her with no luck." said the guard, "should I scored you to the prince." "I can't leave the palace unattended, go back and report to me any situation," said Vincent as he waved his hand in the air, dismissing the guard. He walked out; closing the door behind him. In the room was a giant window, Vincent walked to it; he looked down at the village and the forest beyond. Next to it was a He can even see angels taking flight in the air. The houses in the ground were for those angels that lost their ability to fly, but next to that part of the village was the forest covered with snow and ice and had giant trees. Angels build houses on them for those that are able to fly. The sky was dark now and it got as coolest as it gets in Crystella. Next to the window were to large jars, one for the queen and the other for the king. They contained crystals that will soon become ashes. That's what happens to angels' wings when they die. They fall off in pieces of crystals before they dissolve into black ashes. In the corner of his eye, he catches something of the distance in the trees. It was a beam of white light from the ground to the sky. The light was a bit faint from how far it was, but he knew where it was coming from. It was a light coming from Inferno.
