"That's a weird name" Jayne said coming out of the room she was in, trying to put something in her bag.
"It turns out it's some kind of ancient relic of a book." Everest explained "Unfortunately, I can't tell you much about it; it was supposed to be taken to the museum today but something came up and it'll be taken there tomorrow"
"Can we open it?" Eva asked out of curiosity
"Well, It was written in some kind of long lost language. I did my best but I was only able to interpret a small section of it. It told of a myth; a story about a woman who was supposed to be sacrificed to the god of the underworld. She was a maiden without blemish, an innocent soul whom the god thought deserved to not to die. He took her to his kingdom and she became his favorite and made her his queen. Receiving godhood, she became known as the maiden of chaos, goddess of all disasters and misfortune. After many eons. She chose her resting place beside her husband in the stars, watching over the mortal realm and left a mortal in her place, a mortal, yet to be chosen. That was all I got."
Eva looked at Everest with interest and awe. "So that's all you got, huh?" she said, flipping through the book. She flipped for a while and then she noticed the pages were blank. And the last page with anything written in it was in English "THE RISE OF DISASTER"
"That somewhat looks like blood. I haven't seen these blank pages before and I'm sure I've gone over it like a hundred times or so." Everest inspected but Eva had zones out, unaware of the world around her. She stared at the like she was drawn to it, like it was calling her.
"That is enough; you are scaring my friend." Jayne said closing the book up and placing it on the table. Shouldn't an old relic like this be kept somewhere safe until the museum picks it up?"
"Yes, it should…" Everest said with a slight pout, shoving the book in an office drawer. "…and no, I am not, she just appreciate history and the beauty of ancient books, unlike you who would read fictional books over and over again" she continued.
"Well, at least, those are written in English it's purely for entertainment, we already know it's not real. Yours just fills your head with stuff that should've been left buried in whatever year it came from." Jayne argued.
Ever and Jayne argued, Eva eyes were still on the book. she was curious about the strange book.
"Fine, you win this argument because I have something to do" Everest said picking up a few stuff from the table and went to another section of the library
"Don't listen to her, most things like that are fake and she just loves it for some reason"
Jayne said putting her bag down to bring out some papers which she handed to Eva "Check it out"
Eva took the papers and events through them. She stared at it, making sure there were no flaws or details, worthy of suspicion. All pages were signed with his signature in all the required places. "Remind me never to get on your bad side" Eva said with an amazed look ok her face.
They both laughed, as they headed out the library. They walk in silence for a while
"So, will you tell me what happened?" Jayne said breaking the silence
"I just fainted and…" Eva's voice trailed off and she sighed "Can I trust you?" Eva asked
Jayne paused for a moment, looking up to the sky as if hoping for the answer to drop somehow. "Actually, that is your decision to make. But if it makes you feel better, I can keep a secret for a friend. "
"I am living with my mother and her so called fiancé who hasn't married her for almost four years now, my dad and brother move to another state and I haven't heard from them since they left. Not even Lisa. Now, Luke and his sister, Lizzy hate me for… I don't even know. Being better than them?" Eva said in a bit of annoyance
"Wow… that must have been a lot to take in" Jayne said putting her hand on her shoulder
"You have me now and you can always come stay with me if you don't have anyone else"
Eva looked at her with confusion "What about your parents?" she asked
"They are nearly never around, they haven't been since the term started and it is almost over. I am the only child so I could use the company, I'm sure they won't mind you staying since they want me to have a smart friend who could tutor me and help improve my grades."
Eva just looked at her then away, she thought that Jayne had been nothing but helpful and nice to her, she couldn't just take advantage of her situation. Eva just nodded
"And what about your family? Is there some kind of family crisis? I don't mean to intrude." Eva asked
"For now, I don't really want you to know because I don't want you to change the way you see me, let's get to know each other better before I let you know my parents, is that alright with you?" Jayne looked at Eva face try to get her emotions
"I am cool with that, I'll be waiting for you" Eva said giving her a warm smile, Jayne hugged her
"alright, how do you plan to turn that table on him?" Jayne asked
"For now, I really don't know. I'm just gonna go exchange the papers with this ones here the moment I get home"
"I think you have to tell your mom" Jayne said to her in an emotional way, knowing fully well that would be the last thing she would do
"And why should I do that?"
"she is that only one that can help you now with a lawyer or basically anything you need, just a paper can't win the game"
"And what if she doesn't believe me and show everything to him ?"
"well then, if he wants to threaten you, you come over to my place, if he throws you out, come over to my place and if she doesn't tell him anything but still refused to listen to you, leave her and after all the money transfer into his name you come over to my house"
"so let me get this straight, your solution is your house?"
"Yes it is. I don't want to see you on the street, you got that" Jayne said nudging her in the arm.
"yes ma'am" Eva replied.
"good"
They laughed realizing how much they enjoyed each other's company, Eva was very happy to have met Jayne, they waved themselves good night before parting ways.
Few minutes later they had separated, Eva remembered she wanted to collect her number and went back to meet Jayne where they parted.
She saw Jayne and was about to call out to her but before she could a limo stop in front of her and the driver came down to open the door for her before Jayne could enter Eva was in awe, if she wasn't curious about Jayne's parents before but now, she was
