"There's a gallery opening tonight."
Marcus announced while they were having lunch at a small restaurant near the lake.
"A gallery opening?" she asked.
"Contemporary art. Some pieces I'm interested in. Plus networking. And I want you there for Professional and personal reasons."
"What's the dress code?"
"Cocktail outfit. Black tie is optional." His hand found hers across the table. "Wear something that will make me the envy of everyone there."
Aria smiled despite her anxiety. "So no pressure then."
"You could wear a paper bag and still make me look good." He squeezed her hand. "But I'd prefer the black dress I saw in your luggage. The one with the open back."
"That's a very specific request."
"I have very specific tastes." His thumb traced circles on her palm. "Wear it. For me."
The gallery was in a converted warehouse space. Sleek and modern.
