"As for you Doctor, Mr Brook has processed your suspension with the hospital, and the director would decide any further changes in your case." Andrew announced to the obstetrician who was still on her knees handing her a white envelope.
Still thinking she'll be pardoned for her unprofessional conduct, she decided to remain on her knees, but Andrew gestured towards the door for her to leave.
"Miss April Carter? Miss April?" Andrew called trying to identify who the person is among the three standing, but April wasn't paying attention to whatever was going on as Ruby had to call her attention by whispering to her ears.
"Yes– yes that's me." April muttered in a tiny voice almost as if Andrew couldn't hear her.
"Mr Brook would like to speak with you in private."
"What? Has your boss's mouth gone numb that he can't speak for himself? Tell your beloved boss that we are not going anywhere." Ruby flared up in anger with a furious look at Lucas.
Andrew immediately widened his eyes when he heard what Ruby said, knowing his boss fully well doesn't tolerate anyone who disrespects him, but to Andrew's surprise, his boss demeanor remained calm, but the cold expression didn't fade.
"Ruby, I'm fine, I can stay on my own. Take Aunt Sophie outside and wait for me."
"But—." April signaled with her eyes for them to leave.
As Ruby and Aunt Sophie made their way out of the office, Ruby couldn't help but roll her eyes at Lucas who was currently sitting on one of the task chairs. Andrew also followed suit and left the office to his boss and April..
April also sat down on the task chair gently with her head lowered because with Lucas's demeanor she couldn't look him in the eye, his cold eyes were enough to freeze her up.
"I don't think I need to explain myself much, as you know, I'm the sperm donor."
"I– I know." April stuttered and swallowed hard still with her head lowered.
Lucas nodded before he continued.
"I heard you're already two weeks pregnant, and as for that, this is my bank card. It has huge amounts of money enough for you to get rid of that."
Lucas stretched his hand forward towards April to receive the card but tears instead gathered in her eyes while staring at the black card in between his fingers.
"That? But— This is your child." April's eyes already flood with tears.
"I won't repeat myself; I have nothing to do with it. Just get rid of it and live your life, the money is enough to keep your family happy for years to come."
April raised her head staring at his cold eyes before giving any response.
"I guess all men are the same then, a rogue, pathetic and heartless human." April in a hoarse voice as the tears couldn't stop but instead flooded more.
"I never intended for this to happen; I kept it for a reason. Sort yourself out, you don't want to ruin your future, do you?"
Lucas spoke in his cold voice before slamming the card on the table as he strode out in long stride with his secretary behind him.
"You heartless man, I hate you!" April ran out the door screaming at his back with tears in her eyes.
Lucas didn't turn back or even blink an eyelid to think about what she said.
"April!" Ruby and Aunt Sophie quickly grabbed her before she falls to the ground.
She wasn't expecting too much from him, but this was too much. She never knew a father could be this cold to his child. She only wanted him to acknowledge the child as his and nothing more.
"Tell me what that hooligan did to you!" Ruby screamed in anger almost standing up to run after him, but April held her hand tight.
"April, what should we do now? What did he say? Did he accept the baby?" Aunt Sophie asked as tears also gathered in her eyes.
"He said– to get rid of it." She went on to explain everything that happened in the room to them in tears.
"That hooligan! How dare he?" Ruby frowned.
"What to do now? Are you really going to get rid of it like he said?" Aunt Sophie asked.
"I'm keeping this baby; I can't kill this little heart breathing inside of me."
"I'll care for it and accept my fate." April affirmed with tears in her eyes.
"But if you do that, what about Mr Steele?" Ruby asked with worry in her voice.
April had almost forgotten about her abusive husband as she trembles in fear.
"Whatever happens, I'll accept it as my fate." April swallowed hard.
"My poor girl!" Aunt Sophie sobs while staring at her niece. At a young age she is already going through all of this trouble and trauma. Will she ever survive this? She thought in her mind.
Lucas Brook didn't leave immediately and instead waited in his car at the entrance of the hospital for them to leave as he instructed Andrew to check if April took the Bank Card but to his surprise, she never touched the card leaving it on the obstetrician's office table.
"Boss, she left the card behind. What should I do next?" Andrew asked immediately he entered the driver side of the car.
"I guess she doesn't need it, keep it with you for now."
"Boss, one more thing, Chairman has been asking for you, should I put him on a call?"
"Tell him I'll call when I'm less busy." Lucas ordered as his head rests to the back.
He couldn't stop thinking about his conversation with April causing him distraction at his office, even his employees noticed the change in atmosphere till he got home at night.
During his virtual meeting with the executives, he suddenly remembered 'you heartless man, I hate you!' Her words resounding in his head so much he had to call off the meeting and go to sleep in anger.
